The season has only just finished, but we’ve already confirmed our first capture of the summer in George Smith.
All of us at Hashtag United are buzzing to welcome the 20-year-old to the club, and he will no doubt improve Devs’ strike force given his exploits from last term – this is a signing to get excited about Hashtag fans!
Our man Yani sat down with the striker, who also bagged a whopping 16 assists in the last campaign, to ask him a few questions…
George Smith, welcome to the club! What’s your playing history and what previous clubs have you been at?
“I’ve been at Coggeshall United, as well as Coggeshall Town where I started the season at. Before that I was with Heybridge Swifts, who gave me a loan spell to Stanstead.”
Decent. How many goals did you score last season?
“I got 31 in 36 (games).”
31 in 36? That is remarkable.
What part of Hashtag United are you most looking forward to?
“Just the whole journey itself. What you’ve got over there is special and it’s going to be a journey and I just can’t wait to be a part of it. You can tell the lads are all great, great staff and you can tell you want to win titles which is what I want to do as well. You’ve got the experience of Devs as well which is quality and will definitely help.”
In terms of playing style, which Premier League footballer would you compare yourself to?
“My playing style, well, from what I’ve been told in the past, is similar to Harry Kane. He stays high up and then he comes deep to get the ball, and then there’s his physicality and his finishing.”
Next season we’re going into the Essex Senior League. Do you back yourself to perform at a higher level?
“Yeah of course. 100%. I’m always gonna back myself and my abilities, and I know the players around me are only going to help that as well.”
Welcome to the club George!
