Welcome back to the site guys!
We’ve got a special announcement to bring to you today – a new signing.
We’re delighted to announce the arrival of goalkeeper Louis Hawes!
Louis has some great experience under his belt having played first-team football as young as 16, while also spending time under our very own Joe Keith at Tilbury.
He signs to provide competition to Tim Pitman and Cav Clarke while Jacko continues his rehabilitation from injury.
Yani managed to grab a quick word with the new boy to get his thoughts on his move to Hashtag United.
“Welcome to the club! Are you excited to be a part of Hashtag?”
“I’m really looking forward to getting started. I’ve had a few chats with Devs now and signed on so yeah, really looking forward to getting going.”
“What clubs have you played for previously?”
“In Non-League I’ve played for Wivenhoe FC. That was one of my first Non-League clubs when I was 16, and that’s where I made my first senior appearance. I actually didn’t start playing in goal until I was 15!
“My first season in goal was down at Billericay Town, which was where I played most of my youth football. I went over there towards the end of the season and played a few reserve games, and then got thrown straight into the first-team which was a pretty quick improvement!
“From there, I’ve been at Tilbury. I played there for about two or three seasons, firstly with the Under-23s and then into the first-team, and then the last two seasons I’ve been at Great Wakering. I played with Richo and Ricky Evans there, so that’s how I know a few of the boys at Hashtag already – we won the Senior League a couple of years ago.
“Then, at the start of this season I’ve been at Basildon United through pre-season and then the start of the campaign.”
“What were your thoughts on Hashtag from the outside?”
“It looks like a pretty exciting club to be a part of really. I’ve watched a few of the videos and have also spoken to a few people about the club and it looks like a really exciting club. Obviously a club on the up as well with the first promotion in Non-League last year, and also doing really well at the start of this year.
“I don’t see it as different to any Non-League side. It looks like a really good set-up. I played a few games for Joe Keith when I was at Tilbury and he’s a really good coach. I’ve not actually spoken to Devs before previously but his footballing philosophy seems really good and it obviously works for the boys as they’re playing well and getting good results.”
“A lot of us know that, in general, all goalkeepers are absolute nutters. Is that true for you?”
“I wouldn’t say so. On the pitch maybe. I’m a completely different person when I go across the white line. You’ve got to have that attitude as a keeper, you’ve got to remain focused – if you make one mistake, it’s a goal.
“All goalkeepers have that side to them – you have to in order to play in goal!”
