The Verdict: Neil Richmond has his say on Jose at Spurs

Hey guys, welcome back to the site!

As part of our new content series, The Verdict, we will be asking one of the Hashtag lads to give their view on what’s going on in the world of football.

First up is Spurs fanatic Richo – as the first topic of conversation, we had to ask him about super Harry Kane and swapping Mauricio Pochettino for Jose Mourinho.

Harry Kane, Tammy Abraham, Jamie Vardy….The Premier League has so much English talent firing on all cylinders this season. If you could take one attribute from the three mentioned above, what would it be and why?

“I would have Vardy’s pace. I’ve never been quick, so it’d be nice to know what my game would be like if I had a bit of speed.

“Harry Kane’s finishing – he is so clinical – but I’ve not seen a lot of Abraham, so not too sure.”

Do you think any of them will finish top scorer in the Premier League? If not, who will?

“I think they’ve all got a good chance of being the Premier League’s top scorer, but I definitely wouldn’t write off Sergio Aguero, Mohamed Salah or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal, as they all get loads of goals.”

If you could play alongside one one them at Hashtag, who would it be and why?

“It’s got to be Harry Kane to play alongside purely because I’m a huge Spurs fan and he’s my hero.”

Who do you think is the best all-time top English striker from the Premier League era?

“It’s probably a bit controversial but I’m going to say Wayne Rooney. He was massively underrated and gets a lot of stick now, but you can’t argue what he’s done.

“Obviously Shearer has the most [Premier League] goals, but all-round player has to be Rooney.”

Who would you say your style of play is similar to in the world of football?

“I’m a back-to-goal player with a good first touch. It’s a tough one, but I’d probably say I’m Teddy Sheringham-esque. I’ve never been blessed with pace  but I have good timing, I’m good in the air and have a good first touch. I can also see a pass, so I’ll go with Teddy Sheringham.”

Finally, what are your thoughts on swapping Pochettino for Mourinho at Tottenham? A move in the right direction?

“I’m gutted Pochettino has gone – he’ll always be a hero with the Spurs fans, but you can’t argue with the results over the last year. I think if we hadn’t got to the Champions League final I think everyone would have highlighted the results a lot quicker.

“You can’t knock Mourinho can you? He’s a proven winner and we haven’t won anything. I’m reading a lot of these Spurs fans saying Mourinho won’t suit Spurs’ style of play etc, but his style of play is winning, so I’ll take that all day long.”
