‘We stepped up’: Farai Tsingano and Tom Williams share their views on the huge 1-0 win over Halstead Town

A massive, massive result. All of the boys dug deep in front of an 833-strong crowd, a national record for Step 6 this season, to earn a vital 1-0 win over Halstead Town which sees us go nine points clear at the top of the table.

As previously mentioned, all of the boys dug deep, but it was Tom Williams’ excellent freekick that put us ahead, before an unbelievable goal-line clearance from the goalscorer preserved our clean sheet when it looked certain that we’d concede.

Yani managed to grab a quick word with the match-winner and Farai Tsingano after the game, and here’s what they had to say…

“A huge win, what was that like?”

Farai: “Unbelievable. I can’t really say too much else, big game, big players, we stepped up. There were 800 fans today, I think? Over the moon, honestly.”

“Incredible freekick and an incredible goal-line clearance. How did you pull that clearance out of the bag?”

Tom: “To be honest, I didn’t really know too much about it! I followed the defender in, Jacko was crying, he thought it was going in! But you know what, regardless of the goal and the Man of the Match award, we’re not 11, we’re not 16, we’re a big family.

“I just said to Devs in the changing room, I can’t believe some of the things we’re getting out of players that I’d never thought we’d get out of them, the things they’re doing. Honestly, every person that was on the pitch for a single minute has done everything we could’ve asked of them. Absolutely brilliant.”
