After Rangers' recent friendly with Ligue 1 side Marseille, Pedro Caixinha revealed to reporters that he was still looking for two more quality first-team signings this summer before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.

The Daily Record reported that the duo in question were Heart of Midlothian winger and Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean. However, with neither club apparently not keen on selling, especially to a Scottish Premiership rival, what Caixinha wants might not be what he gets.

It's clear from that report that the Portuguese is still looking for a winger and a midfielder to add an edge to the squad ahead of the new season and provide the creativity for the likes of Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos to capitalise on.

Taking all this into account, we've come up with FOUR alternative signings that the Ibrox club should target to fill the areas of the team Rangers could do with improvement in...

Jamie Murphy

Former Motherwell winger has forged a decent career for himself in the English leagues with Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion, finding himself on the verge of being an English Premier League player next season. However, he was not a first choice pick at the Seagulls last season and now they find themselves in the top-flight, he is likely to get even even less opportunities.

While he played 35 games last term, only 20 of those were from the start and if he wants regular first-team action he may have to move on.

Still just 27 years of age, he has plenty of football left in the tank and indeed could be coming into the prime of his career. Having proven himself to be a very capable winger in the Scottish top-flight with Motherwell, where he scored 50 goals in 215 appearances, he'd be a fine choice to replace Barrie McKay's presence in the team at Ibrox.

It could also be the move he needs to force himself into contention for Scotland caps, with his only call-up to the squad coming in March 2016 for friendlies

Matty Kennedy

Matty Kennedy is lifelong Rangers fan who is coming off a half season in form at promoted Plymouth Argyle, on loan from Championship side Cardiff City.

Scoring five goals in just 17 appearances for the then League Two side, he had as good a loan spell as could have been expected and showed he has the cutting edge that could make him a hit in the Scottish Premiership, especially if he is lining up for his boyhood heroes.

The former Kilmarnock man moved to Everton in 2012 but failed to make the grade there and has continued his development at the Welsh side since 2015.

Last term was his best season in professional football today and if Rangers can capitalise on that confidence and momentum they could have an excellent attacking prospect on their hands.

Craig Bryson

Craig Bryson is a player with vast experience both north and south of the border and could perform a similar role to Kenny McLean if he signed for Rangers this summer.

Now 30 years of age, Bryson left Scottish football back in 2011 and has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for Derby County in the Championship. His form was so good on arrival at the side that he won the club's player of the year award in his debut season. Last term though he started just half their matches and has fallen down the pecking order of central midfielders at the club.

His box-to-box style would go down a treat with Rangers supporters, especially as he plays with 100% commitment in every single match he features in.

That kind of energy is something the Light Blues need next term if they are to find the results they need to push Celtic at the top of the table and put Aberdeen in their place.

Kevin McDonald

When he was a teenager at Dundee, Kevin McDonald was tipped to be a fixture in the Scotland national team for years to come and although that didn't quite pan out, he has forged a long and fair successful career for himself in English football.

With spells at Burnley, Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers behind him, McDonald joined Fulham last summer and showed fantastic form in the Championship, helping the London side push for play-off spot.

28 years old and with 450 professional appearances to his name, McDonald can add the kind of experience that could be trans-formative for the Light Blues' central midfield area next term.

Like Craig Bryson, he could be a very viable replacement if the club can't sign Kenny McLean, his tackling, composure and passing ability all massive attributes that could make him a fan favourite.
