According to reports in Scandinavian publication Ekstra Bladet, via The Independent, Tottenham attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has refused to rule out a move to Barcelona in the future.

The Dane has been a key part of helping Spurs challenge for the Premier League title over the course of the last two seasons, but the 25-year-old has admitted that it would be difficult for him to turn down the La Liga giants if they came calling.

He said: “There are always rumours about footballers, but Barcelona are a great club and I don’t think there are many who say no to Barcelona.”

The attacking midfielder scored eight goals and provided a further 15 assists as the north London outfit recorded their best ever Premier League placing and finished ahead of arch-rivals Arsenal for the first time since 1995, but they still ended the campaign without a trophy. His successful campaign took his overall Spurs record to 31 goals in 134 Premier League appearances.

If that continues, players like Eriksen could decide to leave the club in the future and it means that manager Mauricio Pochettino needs to have a plan going forward.

Here are five Christian Eriksen replacements for Tottenham…

Hakim Ziyech

The Morocco international moved to Ajax from FC Twente last summer after being known as something of an assist king, and he hasn’t let the Dutch giants down.

The 24-year-old scored 12 goals and provided a further 20 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions – including helping them reach the Europa League final – and it seems to be only a matter of time until he moves to one of the major European leagues.

Able to play in attacking midfield or on either flank and with excellent dribbling ability, he could make a real difference to Spurs if Eriksen did go.

Davy Klaassen

Ziyech’s Ajax teammate is probably more similar to Eriksen in style than the Moroccan, and he is another player that has enjoyed an exceptional season for the Eredivisie outfit.

The 24-year-old ended the campaign with 20 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions, and as the captain of the team he has proved that he is a leader too.

Pochettino will know that if he needs to replace the goals and assists that Eriksen provides, Klaassen would be a realistic target.

Hakan Calhanoglu

The 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star missed the last four months of the season after being found guilty of a breach of contract by FIFA.

The attacking midfielder is said to have agreed to join Trabzonspor in 2013, before eventually deciding to stay with Karlsruhe.

Despite missing a large chunk of the campaign, the Turkey international still scored seven goals and provided a further seven assists in 22 appearances in all competitions for the German side, and he is also known as something of a free-kick specialist – we all know how good Eriksen can be from a dead ball situation.

Thomas Lemar

Able to play on either wing or in attacking midfield, Lemar was one of the standout performers that helped Monaco win the Ligue 1 title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The 21-year-old scored 14 goals and provided a further `17 assists in 55 appearances in all competitions this term, and while his style is certainly a little different to Eriksen’s he could certainly bring a different attacking dimension to this Spurs side.

If Pochettino is looking for more pace should the Dane depart, then the France international could be his man.

Emil Forsberg

If the Swede is allowed to leave RB Leipzig in the near future, there will be a whole host of clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old.

Like Eriksen does for Spurs in the 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-2-1 formation, Forsberg likes to play from the left and he enjoyed an outstanding season to help his team to a shock second-place finish in the Bundesliga which means that they will compete in the Champions League next term.

He scored eight goals and provided a further 22 assists in 30 German top flight appearances, and it is that latter stat that will have particularly caught the attention of Pochettino if he needs to find a replacement for Eriksen.
