England won their biggest international football title since 1966 on Sunday when the U20 side beat Venezuela 1-0 in the World Cup final in South Korea.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first half goal proved to be the difference as the young Three Lions lifted the trophy, but the game was also a tale of a brilliant penalty save (more to come on that later) and each side hitting the woodwork.

Although it was a brilliant triumph, England and the players will know that they need to be playing regular football if they are to carry on developing and to reach their potential, and some of the squad won’t be doing that next season at their current club.

Championship outfit Leeds United could be the perfect team to join as they will hope to be challenging at the right end of the table again next term, having narrowly missed out on the play-off positions this.

Here are five England U20 heroes Leeds should sign this summer…

Freddie Woodman

While he is a hugely experienced and consistent performer, Leeds might be starting to think that they need to find a long-term successor to 37-year-old Rob Green between the sticks.

They could certainly do a lot worse than to take a look at Woodman, who pulled off a stunning save from Adalberto Penaranda’s penalty kick in the final on Sunday.

The 20-year-old joined Newcastle United in 2013 but despite three loan spells away – the most recent of those at Kilmarnock – he is yet to make an appearance for the Magpies and could be loaned out again this summer.

Jake Clarke-Salter

With loanee Kyle Bartley returning to Swansea City following a successful season-long loan spell at Elland Road and with Garry Monk’s resignation, a deal to bring the 26-year-old back to the club isn’t looking too likely right now.

That will mean that the new Leeds boss – whoever it may be – will be searching for a new centre-back to partner Pontus Jansson this summer, and he could take a closer look at Clarke-Salter.

Despite being just 19 years of age, the Blues defender has already made his Premier League debut and he has shown his leadership skills by captaining some of the youth sides too.

Fikayo Tomori

Having progressed through Chelsea’s academy and signed a new four-year deal before the start of this season, it looks as though Tomori has a future at Stamford Bridge.

However, he needs games if he is going to progress – which is something he is unlikely to get under Antonio Conte right now despite making his debut in the 2015/16 campaign – and he helped Brighton to promotion having joined them on loan during the January transfer window.

Even though he scored a spectacular own goal against Guinea during the World Cup, the defender could certainly add something to the Leeds side considering his experience with the Seagulls.

Kieran Dowell

Aside from the prolific Chris Wood, Leeds struggled for goals from the rest of the team this season and the new manager will surely look to strengthen his attacking options this summer.

One player that could be available on loan is Everton winger Kieran Dowell, with the Toffees wanting the 19-year-old, who made his debut in the Europa League in 2014 and has featured in two Premier League games since, to play on a regular basis.

With Leeds potentially looking to bring in wide players in order to improve their creativity so they can secure a top six finish, it could be a great match.

Kyle Walker-Peters

With Charlie Taylor set to leave the club after refusing to sign a new deal, one of the priorities for Leeds in the transfer market this summer could be to sign a new left-back.

Walker-Peters is naturally a right-back but he is also comfortable playing on the opposite side – as he has been doing for the England Under-20s during the World Cup.

If Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier stay with Tottenham over the summer then the 20-year-old may well be sent out on loan to get more regular football, with the Yorkshire outfit one of many teams likely to be interested.
