Chelsea remain on track for a first Premier League title under Antonio Conte as they lead the chasing pack by a clear eight points.

Having gone on a 13-game winning streak in league action just before the New Year, which was stopped by Tottenham early in January, the Blues have since recovered and have gone unbeaten.

A now jubilant Stamford Bridge is a far cry from the miserable deity it was last season when the club finished in a thoroughly disappointing tenth position. Conte - who joined the club following a spell as Italy's head coach - has lifted the dark clouds and got the sun shining once again in south west London, with the Blues finally rediscovering the form that made them champions only two seasons ago.

It won't be a cruise to finish line, however, the 3-4-3 steam train doesn't look like being slowed anytime soon and the Blues are heavy favourites to end 2016/17 top of the pile.

We look at the FIVE games that have defined Chelsea's brilliant season so far...

Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea, September 2016

The Blues had enjoyed a fine start to the Premier League season and had lost only once under Conte up until the end of September, when they faced then title rivals Arsenal.

What wasn't expected was the 3-0 drubbing the Gunners dished out over a lacklustre Blues side, who failed to show up at the Emirates Stadium. Two goals in the first 15 minutes from Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott had got the ball rolling early for the hosts, before Mesut Ozil made it three just before half-time and gave Chelsea no way back into the tie.

Having recently lost to Liverpool too, many Chelsea fans were fearing the worst, however, the defeat appeared to spark something into life for the Blues who subsequently went on a club record-breaking 13-game winning streak.

Of those 13 games, one of the toughest tests they were to face - or so it had seemed anyway - was Jose Mourinho's Manchester United.

Only three games after the disappointment at the Emirates, Chelsea welcomed the Red Devils and, of course, former manager Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge and dished out an unexpected thrashing of their own thanks to goals from Pedro, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and finally N'Golo Kante.

Many thought the return of Jose to his former stomping ground would be a closely fought battle, but it was Conte who reigned supreme and boy did he celebrate.

It was a performance of champions, especially given the nature of the fixture and their recent run of poor form.

Famous pundit John Motson claimed that Chelsea's 5-0 rout against Everton was the best 90 minute performance he had ever seen in the Premier League, further stating that it was football from another planet.

Eden Hazard stole the show with a fine performance and a brace to match, while Marcos Alonso, Diego Costa and Pedro also got their names on the scoresheet. The Blues were phenomenal, both at the back with their now flowing 3-4-3 formation, as well as going forward with all of their big names putting in excellent displays for the Stamford Bridge faithful to treasure.

The win was Chelsea's fifth consecutive in the league - a run in which they had scored 16 goals and conceded none.

Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea, January 2017

13 games straight.

That is how many league matches the Blues had won following their disappointing defeat at the Emirates back at the end of September. It was a club-record and Conte's side were only one away from equalling the overall record set by Arsenal during their title-winning season of 2001/02 and the beginning of the next (they made it 14 on the opening day of 2002/03 with victory over Birmingham before a draw at West Ham ended the streak).

A win over rivals Tottenham would match that feat, however, it wasn't to be as two headed goals from an impressive Dele Alli saw the end of the run for the Blues. Despite still running away with the top spot at the time, many thought it could be the start of the downfall for Chelsea, yet it didn't take them long to prove otherwise...

In their next Premier League game after the Tottenham defeat, Chelsea were back at their best and showed no signs of letting up.

Albeit against a struggling Leicester City, it was a masterclass performance and two goals from Marcos Alonso - who almost bagged himself a hat-trick with an audacious volley, too - and a goal from Spaniard Pedro sent a message to the rest of the Premier League that they meant business.
