Liverpool picked up an incredible important victory on Saturday evening, overcoming Arsene Wenger’s side 3-1 at Anfield.

Goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum sealed the victory despite an improved second half performance from Arsenal.

The win moves the Reds back into the top four ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixtures and maintains their unbeaten streak against teams in the top six this season. They’ve played the teams around them 9 times so far this term, winning 5 times and drawing 4 times, a mighty impressive record.

For Arsenal it’s just another sign that they have hit a dead end this season and for many fans all blame leads back to the man in charge Arsene Wenger.

Here are FIVE images that summed up all the action at Anfield...

On their way

It didn't take long for Liverpool to punish Arsenal, Robert Firmino finding himself free inside the box to fire past Petr Cech and end his six match goal drought. The Brazilian hadn't netted since way back in January and this goal could see him find his regular scoring form once again.

From this point on Liverpool never really looked like losing, or even drawing, and it set the tone for the rest of the evening, alleviating any tension around the Anfield stands and allowing the Reds faithful to relax and enjoy the 90 minutes.

Superiority

Sadio Mane asserted Liverpool's dominance with the second goal just five minutes before the interval. It was a lovely finish, one only a man with the confidence Mane has this season could make.

The Senegal international now has 12 goals and 5 assists for the Reds this campaign making him the most Liverpool important player under Jurgen Klopp by a distance.

If he cane keep banging in the goals then Liverool will surely finish in the top four?

Comeback?

The introduction of Alexis Sanchez in the second half immediately had an impact, highlight just how strange a decision it was for him to be left out.

He connected with Danny Welbeck perfectly, sliding a weighted ball through the defence to set-up Danny Welbeck, who chipped it over Simon Mignolet with magnificent aplomb.

It threatened to spark something of a comeback but Arsenal couldn't threaten or put pressure on consistently and Liverpool continued to look in control of proceedings.

Killing it off

To ensure there was no sting in the tail at the end of the 90 minutes, Georginio Wijnaldum popped up in the 90th minute to deliver all three points for Liverpool. Wijnaldum had a fine game apart from that and deserved every bit of his goal.

He may not be flashy or have a big back of tricks but he's a very effective midfielder who also has an eye for goal, especially in the big games, as seen against Manchester City and Chelsea.

The pressure builds

Arsene Wenger is no stranger to pressure as Arsenal manager, enduring 'Wenger Out' calls from elements of the Gunners support for years and years now.

However, that pressure is reaching new heights and if the legendary Frenchman doesn't turn around form soon then the prospect of him signing a new contract in the summer gets smaller and smaller.

His tactics against Liverpool were well wide of the mark, as was his team selection. Whatever plan he had in his head didn't work out and he now has to go back to the drawing board and come up with a way to start picking up big results on their quest for the top 4.
