West Ham United produced a late charge to come from an early goal down at Vicarage Road on Saturday and rescue a point against Watford.

For a long period of the game the Hornets held on to their narrow lead, the result of a Troy Deeney penalty, but eventually the pressure from Slaven Bilic's men paid off and Andre Ayew equalised to have the match finish 1-1.

It was deserved point for the Irons and in truth they could've picked up the victory but a late red card for Michail Antonio halted their late momentum and allowed Watford to rally for the final five minutes and hold on for the point.

The game was marred in the first half by a serious injury to Mauro Zarate and Watford boss Walter Mazzarri is awaiting scans to find out the extent of his problems. Given he was stretchered off, it's not looking good for Watford's new signing.

Here are FIVE photos that tell the story of the match...

Troy Deeney scored his 8th goal of the season to give Watford a lead inside of five minutes. It came from the penalty spot after Mauro Zarate was clumisly brought down by Cheikhou Kouyate in the opposition area.

It should have been the platform for further success in the match but Watford couldn't really build on it and if anything the reaction saw a greater reaction from Slaven Bilic's side rather than Walter Mazzarri's.

At the end of the first half there was great concern for a former West Ham and current Watford man Mauro Zarate who appeared to badly injure his knee.

Walter Mazzarri and Watford fans now await the outcome of a scan on that knee to determine how long he'll be missing. It was a sad end to the first half, it's never nice to see players get badly injured and after the game the Watford manager was worried about how bad it will be.

As quoted by the BBC, he said:

"I saw Mauro Zarate in a lot of pain. Unfortunately it is not a good sign. He was also making a lot of difference on the pitch. Hopefully it is not too bad. He was making a difference on the pitch."

Ayew's equaliser

Andre Ayew came off the bench and scored with just 17 minutes remaining to rescue the point for West Ham United, a goal which you can see delighted Slaven Bilic's side.

It was only Ayew's second goal for the Irons since joining from Swansea City last summer and supporters will be hoping that's the confidence boost he needs to start banging them in on a regular basis.

With the fitness of star man Andy Carroll a constant problem, the Hammers badly need another option that can find the net.

Antonio's ordering off

Michail Antonio had a fine game but things just weren't going his way. First his shot bounced off of two posts before eventually falling to Ayew for the equaliser, then he headed wide then he picked up a red card for a second yellow relating to a deliberate handball.

It was the first sending off of his career and came at a bad time, just when West Ham were about to launch a late charge on the Watford goal, with 5 minutes remaining.

Watford frustration

Watford's only shot on target came from the penalty they converted and they never really got going in the match and were arguably lucky to get the point. They'll be gutted to have conceded in the last part of the game but in weeks to come may see this as a point gained rather than two points lost.

They do need to fix their leaky defence though, that's now just one clean sheet in their last sixteen Premier League games.
