Moussa Dembele scored again last Saturday during a 4-1 Scottish Cup victory over St Mirren that booked Celtic's place in the semi-finals of the competition where they will play Rangers. The Hoops are aiming to secure a rare and historic treble of domestic trophies this season in Brendan Rodgers' first term as Celtic boss. They're also aiming to go unbeaten for the entire domestic season having not lost a game against a Scottish side at all so far under Rodgers.Vital to that success has been Dembele, whose goals have made him a very popular man with supporters, despite him having only played for the club for less than a year.In fact, his form is so good that some fans have started to make comparisons between the Frenchman and the legendary Henrik Larsson.

Is it a valid viewpoint, or simply supporters getting ahead of themselves?

Here are FIVE reasons why Moussa Dembele is, in fact, the best Celtic striker since the days of Larsson...

His debut season goal tally

With 32 goals already this season, Moussa Dembele has the highest debut season goal tally since Joe McBride in 1965/66. He could even eclipse that total, which sits at an incredible 43, too.

No other Celtic striker, not even Henrik Larsson himself, has scored as many goals in their debut campaign as the young Frenchman in over 50 years.

It's quite remarkable and goes some way to explaining why there's so much hype around him. The Scottish leagues are much-maligned, but if Dembele is even outstripping the precedent set by other players who have played north of the border, then surely that's worth sitting up and taking notice of?

His goals against Rangers

Perhaps what has made Moussa Dembele such a hero around Celtic Park is his goals on the big derby occasions this season. Rangers, coming into the Scottish Premiership with much hype, thought they might be able to match the Hoops after a successful season in the Championship, but Celtic have re-asserted their city-wide, country-wide dominance with some spectacular performances in the derby.

Dembele, in particular, has enjoyed great success, scoring a massive five goals against the Gers in three matches, including a famous hat-trick in the first encounter of the season.

No other player since Larsson has made such an impact on the Ibrox side.

His goals in the Champions League

Another defining part of Moussa Dembele's season has been his ability to be effective in Europe. Scoring five goals in European competition, including three in the group stages of the Champions League, he's proven that he is ready to mix it with the best that the continent has to offer.

Celtic have scored important goals in Europe after the Larsson era but perhaps haven't had anyone who can do it with such consistency and with such aplomb, aside from midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura.

Has another striker at the club scored as good a goal in Europe as the overhead kick effort against Manchester City?

Not just a poacher

The key thing about Moussa Dembele's season at Celtic is that he's not just your typical goal poacher who will always be in the right place at the right time. He is often that man to provide the finishing touch, but it's his all-round game that is so impressive - he's able to hold the ball up, bring team-mates into the game and set up chances for others. It's an all-round game Celtic fans haven't seen in ages.

He's complemented his 32 goals for the club with six assists, demonstrating he isn't just your typical selfish forward.

Still astonishingly young

Not only has Moussa Dembele scored all these goals and performed so consistently, he's done it at an astonishingly young age. Still just 20-years -old, the room he has to develop and become even better is quite frightening.

The fact he has shown consistency and a winning mentality to his endeavours already is going to stand him well in the years to come with enhanced technical ability always likely to follow if working under top coaches.

Henrik Larsson was 26 in his debut season at Celtic Park, arguably coming into the prime of his career. If Dembele is doing what he's already doing so young, just think about how good he may be at 26...
