Rangers are in a state of transition right now after the departure of Mark Warburton from the club. Interim manager Graeme Murty has been landed with the responsibility of guiding them through a tumultuous time, a difficult task for any coach nevermind one of his own limited experience.

Unless current form sees a complete role reversal, Aberdeen will finish ahead of Rangers and that's not a situation any Gers fan expects, even the most pessimistic one.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, the Ibrox side have a big summer transfer window ahead and need some fresh blood to liven things up, or they risk enduring another season of mediocrity.

What better way to beat the likes of Aberdeen and Hearts than to sign their best and most promising players? Despite everything that's happened, Rangers still have pulling power with the second biggest budget in the country and a massive support waiting for their next idol.

Here are FIVE signings from the Scottish leagues that could turn around the fortunes of the club...

Joe Lewis

Joe Lewis is enjoying a terrific debut season between the sticks for Aberdeen, proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in the entire league. With 37 appearances in all competitions, it's clear that Derek McInnes sees him as an absolutely vital component of his side.

His importance was never more apparent than during the Dons' 1-0 defeat to Celtic at Pittodrie back in October. As you can see in the above video, Lewis was a star performer and kept the score respectable and his side competitive across the 90 minutes.

He has experience too, at 29 he's made over 300 professional appearances, most of which came at Peterborough United in League One and the Championship. Wes Foderingham isn't exactly calamitous but a move for Lewis would add a more solid foundation to their defence from a 'keeper who has more experience at a higher level than the Rangers man.

Jonny Hayes

Consistently one of Aberdeen's best players in the top-flight for five seasons now, he may be having his best campaign yet with seven goals so far. The former Inverness CT winger has been unstoppable at times in the Scottish Premiership and would add a dynamic dimension to a Rangers attack that have struggled to break the opposition down this term.

His ability was noted last year when he won the first international caps of his career for the Republic of Ireland, an acknowledgement of just how good he has been under Derek McInnes at the Dons.

If Rangers could attract him to Ibrox then they would not only be enhancing their side but significantly weakening their closest rivals in the table and that could prove vital in season 2017/18.

Jamie Walker

Arguably no-one is having a finer season outside of the Celtic squad than Hearts attacking midfielder Jamie Walker. Found on the left wing, often roaming inside, he's been a goalscoring force to be reckoned with in Scotland in 2016/17. He's scored 13 goals in all competitions, a fantastic return for a player far from being an out and out striker.

Rangers supporters know all about him, of course, as he was one of the players on the scoresheet in a 4-1 drubbing at Tynecastle, a result that no doubt hastened the departure of an already under pressure Mark Warburton.

As is often the case, players scoring against you is often a great signifier that they'd be great for you. At just 23, Walker has his whole career ahead of him and if the Ibrox club can tempt him to make the move across the central belt to Glasgow then it could be a formidable relationship for years to come.

Jason Cummings

Another player no stranger to a goal against Rangers is Jason Cummings who is still plying his trade in the Scottish Championship with Hibs. With the ageing Kenny Miller coming to the end of his career Rangers need a new Scottish hitman to pick up where he'll leave off and Cummings could be the perfect replacement.

Having scored over 60 goals for Hibernian in three seasons it's clear he knows how to find the net and at Rangers he'd like have even more chances to convert with support from the likes of Barrie McKay.

Could he be the striker to take them closer towards closing the gap at Celtic?

Sam Nicholson

With Sam Nicholson's contract situation at Hearts still not sorted out and it due to expire in the summer, Rangers have a big opportunity to secure one of Scotland's best young wingers on a free transfer. Despite suffering from injury this season he's showing great potential as a regular star in the top-flight.

A regular for the Scotland U-21 side, he's tipped as a future Scotland international and if the Ibrox club can do a deal for him on the cheap it'd be a great bit of business.

He's ready for first-team football in Glasgow, too, having made over 100 professional appearances for Hearts in his short career so far.

As an added bonus for 'Gers fans, as you can see in the video above, he knows how to find the net against old foes Celtic.
