The Premier League season may not start until August and we have to wait another year for the World cup, but by no means are we starved of football this summer.

We've already seen England crowned U20 world champions in South Korea and Jordan Pickford's penalty heroics at the under-21 European championships.

On top of that, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Alexis Sanchez are gracing Russia in the Confederations Cup.

Seen by many as a glorified dress rehearsal for the World Cup, there are still plenty of top sides strutting their stuff in a bid for international glory.

Apart from hosts Russia, there will be Portugal, Chile, Cameroon, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand - who each won their respective continents tournaments - as well as World Cup holders, Germany.

Plus the tournament offers the chance for Premier League clubs to see their summer targets in action or even uncover a hidden gem.

Here are five players we expect to have an impact...

Matthias Ginter

First up we have Borussia Dortmund’s graceful defender, Matthias Ginter.

The ball-playing central defender has established himself in the German club’s first team with 38 appearances and has also earned 10 caps for Germany.

According to the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur are poised to make a bid for the 23-year-old, who will either act as backup for Toby Alderweireld or even play alongside him should Mauricio Pochettino continue to favour three-at-the-back.

The Sun are also reporting Arsenal could rival their neighbours, with the £15m asking price potentially a snip for a solid defender.

Nelson Semedo

While Antonio Valencia impressed in the right-back role for Manchester United last season, it's fair to say Jose Mourinho relied on him quite a lot.

The 31-year-old made over 40 starts for the Red Devils, as well as coping with a hectic schedule that saw him jetting to Ecuador for international games.

The Portuguese is reportedly looking at £30m Nelson Semedo from Benfica as the man to add competition on the right flank, as per the Mirror.

The 23-year-old has lightning pace, boundless energy and may just be looking to link back up with former-teammate Victor Lindelof, who has just made the move to Manchester.

Hirving Lozano

Speaking of electric pace, they don't come much quicker than Hirving Lozano.

The mercurial winger has hit 22 goals in 69 games for Pachuca in his native Mexico and is on the brink of a move to Europe with Manchester City heading to queue according to Sky Sports.

The idea of Lozano, who has scored twice in 16 appearances for Mexico, joining a City attack already boasting pace merchants like Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane would be a scary thought indeed for Premier League defenders.

Aleksandr Golovin

After a disappointing fifth-place finish last term, Arsene Wenger is under pressure to add talent to his ranks.

While he is by no means a household name, the Frenchman could do a lot worse than Aleksandr Golovin.

The Russian is slick on the ball and adept at winning back possession - qualities the Gunners were sorely missing as Santi Cazorla was sidelined with injury and Granit Xhaka struggled to adjust in his first season.

The Sun are reporting a deal may already be done for the 21-year-old, who will reportedly spend another year on loan at CSKA Moscow.

Gelson Martins

Despite an impressive fourth-place finish last term, Jurgen Klopp is wasting no time in adding to his squad as he looks to tackle the Champions League.

Allegedly the Reds are putting the finishing touches on a move for Roma's Mohamed Salah (as per the Mirror), but until a a fee has been agreed and the move is completed, the German is sure to keep his options open.

Liverpool fans will be watching the talented and pacy winger closely after the BBC Sport claimed they were considering a move for the Portuguese.

The Portuguese winger loves to create, as evidence by his 14 assists for Sporting Lisbon last term.
