Manchester United took a massive step towards finishing in the top four with a comprehensive victory over Leicester City at the King Power stadium.

Goals from Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic and Mata gave them victory, extending their unbeaten streak and continuing the progress shown since Jose Mourinho took charge.

For Leicester it was another demoralising defeat and they are now in great danger of being relegated just one season after winning the Premier League.

Last season's champions didn't offer much throughout the ninety minutes but United fans won't care about that, they'll just be glad to see their team pick up another vital victory.

What did the ninety minutes tell us about both teams?

Here are the FIVE lessons we took from the game...

United are unbeatable

Manchester United's unbeaten streak of fifteen games in the Premier League is the longest active unbeaten streak in Europe's top five leagues.

Mourinho's men may be drawing more games than they'd like but no team looks capable of beating them right now.

It's bringing a confidence to the team that they can always pull a result out of the bag. They start games knowing that at the very least they'll likely get a point.

If they can continue this form up then qualifying for the Champions League in May is a certainty.

Mkhitaryan is brilliant

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a phenomenal afternoon at the King Power stadium. It wasn't just his goal but his entire contribution including an assist.

He now has four goals and two assists in his last ten matches, ever since netting his first every Premier League goal against Tottenham Hotspur in December.

Sunday's game was arguably his best performance in a Manchester United shirt so far and he'll be hoping it's the start of an extended run starting in Mourinho's XI.

It'd be a big call to drop the Armenian attacking midfielder now.

Chris Smalling is solid as a rock

Chris Smalling didn't give Leicester a sniff at goal on Sunday and produced his best performance in a United shirt all season.

He offered a glimpse into the potential he holds when at the top of his game. Only consistency is stopping him becoming an outstanding Manchester United defender.

The England international will likely enjoy a long run in the team and should form a formidable partnership with the returning Eric Bailly. It appears chatter about United's defensive frailties this season were premature.

Mourinho now has a number of quality options at his disposal.

4-4-2 still works at United

The 4-4-2 formation is the classic Manchester United set-up, used so famously by Sir Alex Ferguson for the majority of his time at the club.

It's the fashion in football right now to do away with a two striker attack, the majority of elite teams favouring a central focal point in attack, supported by an attacking midfield three.

By playing Rashford alongside Ibrahimovic, Mourinho rolled back the years at the King Power Stadium, utilising his system to great success.

There was a good balance across his team with the likes of Mata and Mkhitaryan supporting from the flanks to great success.

The midfield two of Pogba and Herrera strolled the encounter, dominating the middle of the park throughout and giving the Red Devils the platform needed  to impress in the final third.

Leicester are in serious danger

Leicester City have found themselves dragged into a relegation battle, just one point ahead of safety. It's all gone wrong for Jamie Vary, Riya Mahrez. There seemed to be a resignation of their fate against United, even before conceding the goal.

That's perhaps the biggest cause for concern for Foxes fans. They can't summon the fighting spirit that saw them become chances, they have little chance of retaining their Premier League status.
