Five things you need to know about Alphonse Areola
With Chelsea’s backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on his way to Bournemouth, Antonio Conte must now set his sights on filling the spot behind Thibaut Courtois. The man to replace Begovic could well be PSG’s Alphonse Areola, who is reportedly being eyed by Conte to serve as understudy to the towering Belgium international next season.
The 24-year old Parisian shot-stopper is a PSG youth product and made 15 appearances in Ligue 1 this season after spending the past three campaigns out on on loan. He’s now heading into his 11th season with the former French champions and has two more years remaining on his current contract. The Frenchman could overtake Trapp should he decide to stay at the Parc de Princes, or fight to split time with Courtois in the Premier League.
Either way, Areola isn’t exactly a household name in England, so here’s five things you need to know about the reported Chelsea target.
