West Ham United suffered a fourth straight Premier League defeat when they were beaten 2-1 by Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday.

It was a result that has increased the pressure on manager Slaven Bilic, while it also means they are starting to look over their shoulders as they lie six points above the relegation zone with eight matches of the campaign remaining, as well as a tricky looking run-in.

Whether the Croatian keeps his job or not – the Irons owners look set to decide his future at an end of season meeting – there could well be some big changes at the club during the summer.

The Hammers have struggled to adapt to life at the London Stadium, and a number of poor performances and results have put the futures of a number of their players into doubt.

Here are five West Ham first team players that the club must get rid of this summer…

Jose Fonte

The Portugal international only moved to the London Stadium from Southampton for £8m during the January transfer window, but he has struggled to make an impact in the Hammers’ defence.

The Irons have conceded 20 goals in the 33-year-old’s eight appearances in all competitions, but aside from the fact that he is yet to keep a clean sheet in a claret and blue shirt, he has also looked decidedly shaky as the team continues to leak goals from set pieces.

Sam Byram

When Carl Jenkinson returned to Arsenal following his loan spell with the Hammers, the expectation was that Byram would be the long-term answer to the club’s right-back issue.

However, 23-year-old has obviously failed to impress Irons manager Slaven Bilic and has made just 16 appearances in all competitions this season after suffering a hamstring tear in October.

Even when he has been fit, the likes of Michail Antonio and Cheikhou Kouyate have been preferred at full-back despite it not being their natural role, which surely doesn’t bode well for Byram’s future.

The Welshman may have been a good servant for the Hammers – he has made almost 200 appearances in two different spells with the club – it appears as though his time at the London Stadium is coming to an end.

With the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid and now Fonte seemingly being the preferred options at centre-back, the 33-year-old has slipped down the pecking order and has made just 17 appearances in all competitions this term.

Injuries have also hampered the Wales international’s first team involvement, and it is time that new blood is brought in at the heart of the defence.

Arthur Masuaku

Bilic signed the left-back from Olympiacos last summer to provide competition for Aaron Cresswell, but despite making a positive start to his Irons career, things soon went wrong.

The 23-year-old put in something of a horror show in the 4-2 defeat against West Brom in September before suffering two injuries that have kept him out of action for the majority of the campaign.

Having made just two substitute appearances since the turn of the year, the Hammers could look to offload the Frenchman at the end of the season.

The Ghana international cost the Hammers a club-record £20.5m when he moved to the London Stadium from Premier League rivals Swansea City last summer, but he has failed to make the impact you might expect of someone who was brought in for that fee.

While the 27-year-old missed a large section of the season with a thigh injury, he has scored just four goals in 17 Premier League appearances – with three of those coming in the last five games – and it isn’t a big enough impact if the club wants to push on for the European spots next term.
