Qatari club Al-Gharafa SC confirmed on Thursday that they had reached agreement with Rangers, clearing the way for Portuguese manager Pedro Caixinha to make the switch to Ibrox.

Should all go to plan and he signs on the dotted line, it will end a month-long search for a replacement for Mark Warburton after the Englishman left the club in acrimonious circumstances.

While it's been a difficult time for the Ibrox side and their supporters, they can now look ahead with optimism, hopeful of progression and building a squad that can eventually compete with Celtic.

A massive part of that process will be recruiting new players in the upcoming transfer window but with resources stretched thin, Caixinha will also have to bring the most of out the squad currently available to him. Besides, there are plenty of games left in the season before that transfer window re-opens and fans are hoping the manager will hit the ground running and help the Gers to a second place Scottish Premiership finish and even potentially lift the Scottish Cup.

Here are FOUR players already at the club that could realise their full potential in the new Caixinha era...

Joe Garner

Joe Garner was a big summer signing in 2016 with then manager Mark Warburton having high hopes he could be the goalscoring force that could see Rangers win consistently in the Scottish Premiership.

However, the English striker hasn't had the best of seasons and until last week had only scored four goals for the Ibrox side, which is a rather dismal return.

He did show signs of improvement last Saturday though, almost doubling that four-goal total by scoring a hat-trick against Hamilton. Now on seven goals for the season Rangers supporters are hopeful that can boost his confidence and allow him to realise his potential at Ibrox.

A new manager could add to that progression with Garner likely keen to impress his new boss in an effort to become a first team regular.

Sadly for him, he's suspended for Sunday's visit to Celtic Park where he scored last time in a 5-1 defeat. That could've been the perfect occasion for him to continue his goalscoring exploits.

Can he become the player fans hoped he could be when he made the switch from down South?

Andy Halliday

There's no doubting that Andy Halliday lives and breathes Rangers football club but this season he's failed to live up to his obvious passion for the Ibrox club with performances to match. It's left supporters frustrated and wondering where the dynamic, combative midfielder of last season is.

There's no real indication as to how Caixinha's teams will line-up when he arrives at Ibrox but he'd be silly not to want men like Halliday at the heart of his team. Rangers always have a Scottish core to their team, it's always been a tradition and Caixinha will likely have to find a way to get the best out of the likes of Halliday if he's to be a successful Rangers manager.

At 25 years old, the former Middlesbrough man should theoretically be coming into the peak of his playing career and the confidence boost that a new manager can bring him could be the making of him.

Danny Wilson

Danny Wilson is another Rangers player who has failed to transfer his Scottish Championship form into performances worthy of the top-flight in Scotland. That's unlikely to be because of any ceiling on his ability and more likely to do with a lack of proper leadership and direction at the club, even when Mark Warburton was in charge.

There are many supporters who have lost patience with the central defender with a number of poor performances contributing directly to bad results, but Rangers fans should know better than anyone what he's capable of on his day.

A former fans' favourite before making a premature move to Liverpool, he was always tipped as a future Rangers captain and was much heralded during their promotion campaign last term.

With Clint Hill ageing and Rob Kiernan arguably not the answer, Caixinha could look to Wilson to be the future of his Rangers defence, especially if there aren't great funds to replace the entirety of the Rangers backline.

Can he finally fulfil his promise and become a cracking Rangers centre-back?

Barrie McKay

Barrie McKay is one player that unites all Rangers fans in a positive way. Even at their lowest ebb this season McKay has been one of the few bright sparks that have made supporters feel like they're getting their money's worth when they turn out at Ibrox in big numbers.

Despite his obvious and undoubted talent, you get the impression the winger is only scratching the surface of his full potential at the club. If he's playing well when the team are struggling then just think about what he may be able to do when the rest of his teammates are stepping up to the plate under a new manager?
