In what has been a largely disappointing season, Aston Villa will look to continue their impressive recent form and finish their Championship campaign on a high when they face automatic promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Villans sit in 13th position in the standings – 16 points from the play-off positions – following a run of three straight victories, the latest of which was a 2-0 win at bottom-of-the-table Rotherham United on Saturday.

With just 11 matches of the season remaining, it would take a minor miracle for Steve Bruce’s side to achieve a top six finish, and they will instead need to carry on producing strong results in order to create some momentum ahead of a promotion push next term.

It will be no easy task to pick up a fourth successive three points away at Huddersfield though, with the Terriers currently in third position and harbouring dreams of reaching the Premier League themselves with David Wagner and his men impressing many with their performances.

Here are FOUR reasons Aston Villa will continue their winning run against high-flying Town…

Current form

Aston Villa supporters have endured a frustrating season from their team with consistency proving to be one of the side’s biggest problems.

While they have on occasions picked up some impressive results, they were usually followed by a disappointing one, but Villans fans will hope their team has turned the corner in recent weeks after taking nine points from a possible nine - incredibly, the first time they have done so since April 2010.

A trip to an impressive Huddersfield looks potentially daunting, but Steve Bruce will hope that his confident squad can put in another winning performance.

Lack of pressure

Along with Newcastle United, Villa were the strong pre-season favourites to achieve automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

It is perhaps a pressure that has told and put a strain on the squad at times throughout the season, but with the play-offs now seemingly beyond their reach, it appears as though the players are performing with a little more freedom.

The results on the pitch in recent weeks would certainly suggest that this is the case.

Faltering Huddersfield

While the pressure on Villa’s shoulders looks to have lifted, the same cannot be said for Huddersfield.

The third-placed Terriers have taken just one point from their last two matches and it appears the strain could be starting to show for Town and their players.

Not used to being in a position where they are challenging for automatic promotion in the Championship, they will face another difficult task against the in-form Villans on Tuesday night.

Clean Sheets

Not only have Villa picked up three successive wins, they also picked up three consecutive clean sheets in the process.

While defending hasn’t been a huge problem for Steve Bruce’s side this season – they have only conceded eight more than leaders Newcastle – it will certainly give a big confidence boost to the back four in the upcoming matches.

The addition of Swansea left-back Neil Taylor during the January transfer window has certainly boosted the backline, and Bruce will be hoping for another shutout at the John Smith’s Stadium.
