Manchester United will look to stay in contention for a top-four finish when they face fellow Champions League hopefuls Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Red Devils are one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City going into the weekend’s fixtures following a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Swansea City last Sunday, which extended their unbeaten Premier League run to 25 matches.

They boosted their hopes of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition with a Europa League semi-final first leg win against Celta Vigo in Spain on Thursday night, with Marcus Rashford’s outstanding free-kick proving to be the difference between the two sides ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday.

United boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that winning the Europa League is now his priority and he could rest players for the clash against the Gunners, who are desperately trying to secure a top-four finish themselves.

Arsene Wenger’s side were beaten 2-0 in the final ever north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane last weekend to leave them six points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s men, and they know that they need to pick up all three points on Sunday otherwise finishing in the top four will be almost impossible.

Here is our predicted United XI that will destroy Arsenal…

David De Gea

The Spaniard in the undoubted number one at Old Trafford but whether it was down to the free-kick he conceded against Swansea City last weekend, continued rumours over his future or Jose Mourinho choosing to rest him, he found himself on the substitutes’ bench for the Europa League semi-final tie against Celta Vigo on Thursday.

De Gea will hope to be reinstated in place of Sergio Romero for the trip to Arsenal on Sunday, as he looks to help the club extend their 25-match unbeaten Premier League run.

Antonio Valencia

While Mourinho has hinted that changes could be afoot for the trip to Arsenal as he looks to rest the players that have been regulars throughout a congested April, he may have to stick with the impressive Valencia at right-back.

The chances are that Ashley Young was due to face the Gunners but after he was substituted on and then off again in the victory against Celta Vigo on Thursday, he looks set to sit out the visit to the Emirates, leaving the Portuguese boss with few other full-back options.

Eric Bailly

Having come off with a knock during the second half of the 1-1 draw against Swansea at Old Trafford last weekend, the Ivory Coast international would have been considered a doubt for the trip to Celta Vigo.

However, he was named in the starting XI and with Marcos Rojo definitely out, Phil Jones unlikely to start and Daley Blind possibly being rested for the trip to the Emirates, he could once again take his place at the heart of the United defence.

Chris Smalling

Following a six-week absence after picking up a knee injury, Smalling returned to the substitutes’ bench for the Europa League semi-final tie against Celta Vigo, coming on for the last couple of minutes when Ashley Young came off injured.

With Mourinho likely to rest Daley Blind after what has been a congested April fixture list, the England international should be given a start for the trip to the Emirates and he will know that he needs to be on his game to stop the likes of Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott.

Matteo Darmian

Mourinho has often picked between the Italian and Luke Shaw in the left-back spot in recent weeks and with Darmian starting the Europa League semi-final tie, the Portuguese boss would ideally liked to have started the England international for the clash against the Gunners.

However, Shaw picked up an injury early on against Swansea last weekend that looks set to rule him out for the rest of the season, and it means that Darmian should once take his place in the United back for at the Emirates, where he could come up against Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Michael Carrick

As we all know, Jose Mourinho likes to play a conservative game when he goes away to one of his top-six Premier League rivals and he will likely do so again at the Emirates.

After being rested for the Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo, Carrick is likely to find himself back in the starting XI against the Gunners to try and provide some stability in the middle of the park.

With the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey – who can be brilliant on their day – to deal with, it won’t be a straightforward task.

Ander Herrera

The in-form Spaniard is one of the players that has been a regular throughout a busy April, and in an ideal world Mourinho would have perhaps preferred to rest Herrera for the trip to the Emirates and start Marouane Fellaini instead.

However, the Belgian’s red card against in the Manchester derby means that he will sit this one out, and with few options available to him in the middle of the park, Herrera should start alongside Carrick.

Juan Mata

Like Smalling, the Spaniard hasn’t played a Premier League match since the win against Middlesbrough in March because of a groin injury, and Mourinho had previously suggested that he would miss the rest of the season.

However, the attacking midfielder was named among the substitutes for the Europa League semi-final win against Celta Vigo on Thursday, and he could be handed a start on the right-hand side for the trip to the Emirates with Jesse Lingard playing a high number of games in April.

Paul Pogba

After missing the Manchester derby and Swansea draw because of injury, the Frenchman returned to the starting line-up for the Europa League semi-final tie against Celta Vigo and he was probably one of their best players on the night.

The world-record buy could be given a second successive start for the trip to the Emirates with few options for Mourinho to choose from, and he could be given a more advanced role at the centre of an attacking midfield three, where he will be expected to provide a real threat in the Gunners' penalty area.

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman has been one of the regulars throughout April but after being named on the substitutes’ bench for the Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo, it suggests that he will start against Arsenal.

Mourinho is likely to set up for the counter attack as he regularly does away against the Red Devils’ top six rivals, and Martial will be especially effective playing that role, as he showed in the win against Burnley at Turf Moor last month.

Wayne Rooney

With Ibrahimovic definitely out and Europa League hero Marcus Rashford a doubt after starting with a knock and then coming off with an injury after scoring a magnificent free-kick, Rooney could get the nod up top at the Emirates.

Aside from Martial, the 31-year-old is the only other option to start as a centre-forward is Rashford misses out and he will look to have a similar impact to the one he had in the win against Burnley last month, when he scored the Red Devils’ second goal.
