The Edinburgh Derby returns to Scottish football this Sunday lunchtime - always one of the football calendar's highlights north of the border.

To say that supporters of both teams take this fixture seriously is an understatement. This is a match-up that takes over Scotland's capital in the week prior and week after it's played between these two sides. Supporters literally queued up all night to get tickets for the upcoming game when they were released.

Sunday's match at Tynecastle means more than most, with a chance to move into the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup - a tournament that has brought success to both clubs in recent years.

Hibs are the current holders of course, ending a 114-year wait to lift the trophy when they saw off Rangers in a dramatic Hampden final last May.

Hearts? Well they'll likely point to a certain 5-1 win over their city rivals back in the in 2012 Scottish Cup Final. They like to mention it every now and then.

It's all set to be a cracker and to get you into the mood, we thought we'd take a look at six of the best goals in the fixture down the years, three for Hearts and three for Hibs...

22/10/2000 - Russell Latapy

Russell Latapy had a whirlwind three years at Hibs, starting with a Player of the Year performance to get them promoted and ending with his sacking after a debauched night out with Dwight Yorke.

During that three years he became an icon with supporters and that was because of moments like this.

Hibs' 6-2 win over Hearts in October 2000 still stands as one of the biggest wins over their arch rivals and is a defining moment in the life of many Hibs fans.

This Latapy goal was the icing on the cake, smashing home a volley to make it 6-1 with just seven minutes remaining after a beautiful one-two with Mixu Paatelainen, who himself managed to score a hat-trick that day.

 11/08/2002 - Mark de Vries

Prior to that famous final in 2012, when Hearts fans thought of 5-1, it was this game back in August 2002 when Mark de Vries scored a sensational four goals to sink Hibs at Tynecastle.

You know what makes that four-goal haul more incredible? It was De Vries' first start for the club. It doesn't get better than that.

The goal we've chosen from the four is his first, purely because of the assist. Jean-Louis Valois delivered the most exquisite chip over the Hibs defence to supply De Vries, who banged it home expertly.

A superb Hearts goal on a superb day for them.

15/02/2004 - Derek Riordan

Derek Riordan was a player that with a better attitude, could have become a genuine Scottish football superstar. Regardless, he still had a fantastic Hibs career in two spells with the club and it was goals like this that made him a hero at Easter Road.

In an otherwise drab 1-1 draw, this Riordan effort lit the fixture up, scoring a screamer from 30 yards to give a youthful Craig Gordon absolutely no chance in the Hearts goal.

There can be no better feeling as a Hibs fan, which Riordan most certainly is, than banging in a goal like that on derby day.

07/11/2010 - David Templeton

While not quite on the level of Riordan, David Templeton is another young Scottish talent who didn't quite fully realise his potential.

Hearts fans will always have this memory though, a jinking run and finish through the defence that was more El Clasico than Edinburgh Derby.

It contributed to a 2-0 win for Hearts away to their city rivals in a season when Hibs would finish a lowly 10th in the table - whereas Hearts would finish well ahead in 3rd.

Templeton would go on to play for Rangers but a series of debilitating injuries eventually saw his time at Ibrox come to an end and he is currently without a club.

12/05/2013 - Leigh Griffiths

Another massive Hibs fan hit derby day delight against Hearts in 2013, scoring this screamer to sink the Tynecastle side at home in May. It was goals like this that saw Celtic snap him up less than a year later.

It was part of a 28-goal season for Hibernian, on loan from Wolves, that ensures Leigh Griffiths will always be welcome at Easter Road. This was one of many that year that took the breath away, but perhaps the pick of the bunch both for the club and on a personal level for the player.

26/10/2014 - Alim Ozturk

With Hearts and Hibs finding themselves in the Championship together, every Edinburgh derby had an extra edge to it that season as both clubs fought to get back into the top-flight.

Hearts took the spoils in the first encounter at Tynecastle and travelled to Easter Road having won every game but only one in the league up to that point.

Hibs fans then must have been delighted heading into the final moments of the game, 1-0 up and with a man advantage.

Alim Ozturk had other ideas though and scored this screamer off the bar in stoppage time to deny Hibs a famous win and keep Hearts' unbeaten league streak going, which would extend all the way into January and see them promoted at the expense of both Hibs and Rangers.
