Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster's poor form continued in the 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Sunday when he failed to keep out Glenn Murray’s header.

The 29-year-old is coming under increased scrutiny from the south coast outfit's supporters, despite the fact that he has kept four clean sheets in 10 Premier League appearances this season.

However, the 6ft 7in stopper has been struggling for form for a while now and while he looked to be at fault against the Seagulls, he has also had his fair share of wobbly moments throughout the campaign.

According to Squawka following the 2-2 draw against Newcastle United, the England international had made more defensive errors (4) than any other Premier League player, with two of those leading directly to goals.

But it isn't just his mistakes that are attracting the criticism, with the lack of command of his area and his distribution also being brought into question.

As a result of all of this, Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino could choose to bring in a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window with Alex McCarthy failing to bring the required competition, and there are a number of stoppers they club could potentially be looking at.

Here are three Forster replacements Southampton should target in January…

Dan Bentley

While Brentford haven't made the best of starts to the Championship season, Bentley has once again impressed between the sticks for the Bees by keeping four clean sheets in 14 league games.

The 24-year-old is a confident goalkeeper and after he saved a penalty in his side's 1-0 win against Millwall earlier this month, Lions boss Neil Harris labelled him as "the best keeper outside the Premier League".

Judging by that statement it surely won't be long until he finds himself in the top flight, and Southampton could be the club that gives him his opportunity in the big time.

Sergio Romero

After making 18 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United last season including the majority of their Europa League campaign, Romero would have been hoping for more first-team opportunities this term.

However, the form of David De Gea and the club's return to the Champions League means that the 30-year-old has only made two outings – both in the Carabao Cup.

While Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho wouldn't want to lose the reliable Romero as back up, if the Argentina number one was offered regular game time elsewhere he could be tempted to take it with the 2018 World Cup just around the corner.

Southampton would certainly be able to offer him that opportunity if Forster's poor form continues, and he will be remembered well by the St Mary's faithful for saving Manolo Gabbiadini's penalty in the goalless draw between the two teams back in May.

Timo Horn

Having helped FC Cologne to a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga last season by conceding 24 goals and keeping six clean sheets in 20 league appearances, it hasn't been plain sailing for the German side this term.

They have taken just two points from their opening 10 top flight fixtures and have lost all three of their Europa League fixtures, but Horn has still been an impressive and commanding figure between the sticks.

According to WhoScored.com the 24-year-old's strengths are punching the ball, his long passing and his ability to save long shots, and the latter would certainly be welcome given the goals from Daryl Janmaat, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Isaac Hayden that Saints have conceded from outside the area already this term.
