After a poor season last term, the hope for Rangers fans that this summer would be something a rebirth for the squad, with Pedro Caixinha finally able to put in some pre-season and get his hands on some players of his own choosing in the transfer market.

Those hopes came crashing down on Tuesday night when they were humbled in Luxembourg and dumped out of the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round by Progres Niederkorn.

The fall-out has been enormous with supporters not happy at all with any of the players or the Portuguese for the humiliating result.

There are constructive ways forward though and the fact is that many of Caixinha's signings have not yet made their debut for the club yet for various fitness and international commitment reasons.

Having been so busy in the market already, you might expect Rangers to slow down their spending and while that may be true, we reckon that they are not done quite yet when it comes to recruitment.

Any acquisitions now though will have be done on the cheap and we reckon these THREE out-of-contract stars could play a big role at Ibrox...

Reto Ziegler

Reto Ziegler is leaving FC Sion this summer after a two year spell at the Swiss club. The nomadic central defender has played in six countries across his career for a massive 10 clubs. To his credit though he's always found himself at a club playing top-flight football and has gained a wealth of elite experience at the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and Fenerbahce.

Now 31, he's on the hunt for a new club and why shouldn't Rangers throw their hat in the ring? They have the fanbase, they have the quest for trophies, they have ambitions to be a team performing in European football on a regular basis.

The 35-cap Swiss international is standard above most at Ibrox, but you could've said the same for Bruno Alves, a player no-one expected Rangers to be in the market for.

A player who can play both centrally and on the left of defence, he'd add real quality and depth to the side and a club of Rangers stature could prove tempting.

Charlie Adam

Charlie Adam is a player well known to Rangers fans. Adam famously came through the youth ranks at the club after joining from Dundee at the age of 18. He made 88 appearances for the Light Blues but failed to convince any of his managers that he was a man to rely on, on a consistent basis.

Adam found much success in England with Blackpool before winning an unlikely big move to giants Liverpool, something Rangers fans would have found laughable when he left the club initially.

He's been playing English Premier League football for seven years now and a return to Ibrox could prove fantastic for both the player and the club now that's he's achieved beyond expectations.

Still just 31, he has plenty to offer and alongside the likes of Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack, could be the creative outlet Pedro Caixinha's side needs through the middle.

A cult hero at Newcastle United due to the Ameobi name being an almost constant at the club for years now, Sammy Ameobi, younger brother of Shola hasn't quite made the grade necessary to be a Premier League player at St James' Park.

He's left the club this summer after a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers, failing to convince Rafa Benitez that he attacking outlet the Magpies need on the wing.

The former England U21 international has good experience though with spells at Cardiff City and Middlesbrough beefing up his CV.

With the departure of Barrie McKay to Nottingham Forest, Rangers need a spark in the final third and Ameobi could be the player to do just that on a budget.
