According to reports in the Daily Mail, Everton have won the race to sign West Ham United target Henry Onyekuru from KAS Eupen.

The 20-year-old had been one of Slaven Bilic’s priorities this summer following an outstanding season for the Belgian outfit in which he scored 24 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions despite primarily playing on the left wing.

However, despite being the favourites for his signature at one stage, the Nigeria international has opted to join the Irons’ Premier League rivals instead and will be loaned to Anderlecht next season in order to continue his development, before returning to Goodison Park in a year's time.

Bilic will still be keen to strengthen his attacking options before next term following a disappointing debut campaign in their new London Stadium home.

Adding some pace to his frontline is certainly needed, and after missing out on the Nigerian he will need to turn his attentions elsewhere.

Here are there Onyekuru alternatives West Ham could sign this summer…

Following a number of outstanding displays for Birmingham City in the Championship, Leicester City took a gamble on the winger in 2016.

While he has made 55 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes since then – scoring two goals and showing glimpses of what he is capable of – the majority of those outings have come from the substitutes’ bench as he has struggled to nail down a spot in the starting line-up.

That is something that might be frustrating the wide-man – especially after he scored twice for England at the European Under-21 Championships – and if West Ham could offer him first team football he could be tempted to move to the capital, although they might have to meet his £22m release clause to do so.

Jacob Murphy

Following a number of loan spells away from the club, Murphy was finally given his opportunity in Norwich City’s first team last season and he grasped the opportunity with both hands.

The 22-year-old winger ended the campaign with 10 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries, and impressed with his dribbling ability, as well as creating and taking his chances.

He carried that form into the European Under-21 Championships with England after being named in the squad for the tournament in Poland, and he set up the equaliser in the 2-1 win against Slovakia before netting the third in their 3-0 success against the hosts.

Murphy certainly seems to have plenty of potential and makes a difference in matches, and West Ham could take a gamble on him as an Onyekuru alternative.

Ismaila Sarr

The youngest name on our list at just 19 years of age, Sarr is making a huge impression for Ligue 1 side Metz despite being in the early stages of his career.

In his breakthrough season for the club last term, the Senegal international scored five goals and provided one assist in 31 French top flight appearances.

His ability to play on either wing and his dribbling success – he successfully completed 49 take-ons last season – mean that while he is far from the finished article, he looks to have huge potential and could be available for a reasonable fee – just like Onyekuru.
