Southampton will look to cement their spot in the top half of the Premier League when they host relegation-battlers Hull City at St Mary’s on Saturday.

The Saints moved up to ninth position following successive wins against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion earlier this month, but consecutive defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea have put their top 10 place into doubt and they are just one point above 11th-placed Stoke City.

Claude Puel will be looking for his team to get back to winning ways when they host the Tigers, but it won’t be an easy task with Marco Silva’s side desperate to avoid being relegated straight back to the Championship.

With all of the uncertainty surrounding the Yorkshire outfit at different points during the season, a number of their players have been performing well and they are currently two points above 18th-placed Swansea City.

Here are three Hull stars Southampton should look to sign this summer…

Harry Maguire

Whether the much-coveted Virgil van Dijk leaves Southampton or not this summer, Claude Puel will be keen to bring a new centre-back to the club.

The south coast outfit are still yet to replace Jose Fonte, who joined West Ham during the January transfer window, with free agent addition Martin Caceres looking set to exit St Mary’s after failing to make a single appearance.

One player that will have impressed Puel is Hull’s Harry Maguire, who has put in some commanding performances at the back for the Tigers this term.

Andrew Robertson

Ryan Bertrand is another Southampton player that is said to be attracting interest from some of the top clubs in the Premier League, and if the England international does leave St Mary’s this summer Claude Puel will want to see him replaced.

While the likes of Matt Targett and Sam McQueen have done well when they have filled in, Robertson has shown that he has the quality both defensively and offensively, and that is a crucial part of Saints’ current style.

Sam Clucas

In what has been a tough season for Hull City on and off the pitch, one of their most consistent performers has been midfielder Clucas.

The 26-year-old has made a significant contribution from a defensive point of view as well as scoring two goals in 33 Premier League appearances this term.

He could prove to be the perfect partner for Oriol Romeu in the current 4-2-3-1 formation that Claude Puel is favouring, with Steven Davis not looking to fit into the system alongside the Spaniard.
