West Ham United have been dealt a blow in their attempts to sign £20m-rated Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud after the Frenchman hinted that he is happy to stay in an interview on arsenal.com.

Irons manager Slaven Bilic is keen to strengthen his strike-force before the start of next season with continuing fitness issues over Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, and he ideally wants players that are proven in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old looks to be the perfect candidate in that respect, with reports in The Sun last month suggesting that the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon would push the frustrated France international further down the pecking order and through the Emirates exit door this summer.

However, his comments on the latest weekly Arsenal podcast suggest otherwise.

The centre-forward said: "That’s why I want to carry on my good journey at Arsenal and I always want to give my best.

"I would love to win another title, or maybe more until the end of my contract.

"The motivation is here, always doing your best to make your family proud."

After scoring 16 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions last season, it appears as though the Frenchman is happy to fight for his place, and that Bilic will need to look elsewhere for a new striker.

Here are three Giroud alternatives West Ham could sign this summer…

Bas Dost

If Slaven Bilic is looking for a physical striker that can find the back of the net on a regular basis, then he would do a lot worse than to take a look at Sporting Lisbon striker Dost this summer.

The Netherlands international scored a remarkable 37 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants last season, and he certainly could come at a cost thanks to his prolific record.

However, he certainly has the stature and strength to be a Premier League success, and would be a statement signing.

The Algeria international joined Leicester City last summer following a prolific few seasons in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon, but he struggled to make an impression and become a consistent starter for the Foxes last term.

However, the Irons shouldn’t let that put them off as the 29-year-old still finished the campaign with seven goals in 23 Premier League appearances, and has shown that he can make an impact at this level if he is given regular playing time and the right service.

The physical striker is certainly in the mould of Giroud, and could be a real focal point for the Irons next season if the east Midlands outfit decide to cut their losses.

Nicolai Jorgensen

The Danish centre-forward enjoyed an outstanding 2016/17 campaign to help Feyenoord lift the Eredivisie title.

The 26-year-old scored 21 goals and provided a further 14 assists in 32 league appearances, while he also has seven goals in 24 caps for his country.

The fact that he is good at holding the ball up and has an eye for a key pass as well as a goal would make him an interesting addition for West Ham in the Premier League, and the Irons could probably pick him up for around the same price as the £20m it would cost to get Giroud.
