According to reports in the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have sent scouts to watch Eintracht Frankfurt striker Haris Seferovic with a view to making a summer move.

The Switzerland international’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit is due to run out this summer, although it is believed there is an option for the 25-year-old to extend his stay for a further year.

Even though Villa are likely to spend another year in the Championship following a disappointing campaign, and Steve Bruce will need to put together a team this summer that will challenge for automatic promotion next term.

Ross McCormack only signed from Fulham for £12m last year, but the Scot looks set to leave Villa Park at the end of the season after failing to impress Bruce and being sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest.

They still have Jonathan Kodjia and January transfer window addition Scott Hogan, but the Villa boss is seemingly still looking to strengthen his attacking options, although the Swiss striker might not be the answer.

Here are three reasons Villa should steer clear of signing Seferovic…

Goal record

If Villa did sign the 25-year-old this summer, he wouldn’t exactly arrive with an impressive goalscoring record.

The Switzerland international has scored just two goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt this term, and he scored just four goals in 33 outings in all competitions for them last term.

Although he sometimes appears on the left-hand side rather than as a centre forward, it isn’t a prolific record that suggests he will hit the ground running in the Championship.

Creativity

As we mentioned before, Seferovic is sometimes deployed on the left-hand side of a front three or on an attacking midfield trio when he isn’t selected as the striker, but his stats don’t suggest that he is a creative force there.

In 19 appearances for his club this term, the 25-year-old has made just five key passes and failed to provide a single assist, while he lacks any real pace.

In that respect, he wouldn’t seem to be an upgrade on the likes of Albert Adomah and Jordan Amavi in the wide positions.

Finishing

While he may have different qualities to the likes of Kodjia and Hogan from a physical point of view and with his hold-up play, the striker’s finishing has come under scrutiny on a number of occasions.

The 25-year-old had a number of good chances for Switzerland during last summer’s European Championships in France for example, but sent many of his efforts either wide or straight at the goalkeeper as he ended the tournament with no goals in four appearances.
