Three reasons Chelsea target Bonucci would be the signing of the summer

According to reports in The Sun, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has renewed hope that he can complete a £48m deal to sign Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci this summer.

The Blues boss is desperate to sign a new centre-back this summer to replace the outgoing John Terry and provide competition for the successful three-man defence of Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz next season, and the 30-year-old is said to be one of his top targets.

Even though Bonucci has played his whole career in Italy, he could be tempted to have a crack at the Premier League following his side’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last weekend.

A move would also allow him to work with Conte for a third time having played under him for Juve and the Italian national side, and his signing would certainly be something of a coup for the west London outfit.
