Everton are searching for Ronald Koeman's successor after sacking the Dutchman on Monday following a disastrous start to the season.

The final straw proved to be the 5-2 defeat against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday, which left the Toffees in 18th position in the table and with just two Premier League wins to their name this term.

Having taken just one point from a possible nine in the Europa League group stages as well after a big summer of spending, the heavy home loss proved to be the end of the road for Koeman.

Meanwhile, Watford have enjoyed a positive beginning to the campaign and much of the praise has gone to manager Marco Silva, who took the reins at Vicarage Road during the summer.

Having made a positive impression with the Hornets and with Hull City last term, he could be the right man to take the Merseyside outfit forward.

Here are three reasons Everton should go all out to appoint Silva as their new boss…

Instant impression

Silva took charge of Hull City when they were bottom of the Premier League with 13 points from their 20 top flight games in January, and it looked to be beyond them to achieve survival considering the squad they had available to them.

However, the Portuguese boss quickly improved the Tigers' home form and picked up a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

However, three straight defeats at the end of the campaign ended their hopes of pulling off a great escape.

The 40-year-old has also made an instant impact with Watford, and they lie in fifth position with four wins and three draws from their opening nine league games this term.

If Silva did take the reins at Everton you would expect him to get off to a positive start and be a popular figure in the dressing room, and that is exactly what the Merseyside outfit need right now.

Entertainment

Everton supporters had become bored with the club's style of play under Ronald Koeman this season, with a lack of goals perhaps coming from the lack of a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku and not playing summer additions like Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen in their preferred positions.

Silva would certainly make the Toffees more exciting to watch if his time with Hull and Watford is anything to go by however, and he has shown this season with the Hornets that he isn't afraid to have a go no matter who the opponent is – as he did in the 4-2 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

While they have scored 15 Premier League goals in nine games, they have also let in 17 and while that may not be ideal from a defensive point of view, the 40-year-old would expect to have a stronger defensive set-up at Goodison Park.

One of the main criticisms of Koeman towards the end of his tenure was his lack of tactical awareness and ability to change his side's fortunes during a game, but the same cannot be said about Silva – aside from the 6-0 defeat to Manchester City earlier this term perhaps, although many other teams have suffered a similar fate.

The 40-year-old picked up an impressive goalless draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford with Hull City earlier this year, while he also changed the game when he brought on Troy Deeney against Arsenal this month when his Watford side were trailing 1-0.

It proved to be the catalyst for a turnaround and a 2-1 win, and had it not been Richarlison's poor finishing then the Hornets may also have won against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after their Portuguese boss set them out with an effective game-plan.
