According to reports in the Daily Mirror, Crystal Palace are said to be lining up a move to bring Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie back to the Premier League.

New Eagles manager Frank De Boer is said to be considering bringing his fellow countryman to Selhurst Park this summer as he looks to strengthen his attacking options, with the Daily Mirror stating that the 33-year-old is keen to return to English football.

However, Palace may face competition from a number of clubs if they do make a move for the Dutchman, who previously featured for Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League and lifted the title with the latter in 2013, and one of those could be Everton.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman is keen to significantly strengthen his squad this summer – which he has already started to do – in order to compete in the Premier League as well as the Europa League next season, and he may feel that the attacker could be a worthwhile addition.

Here are three reasons Everton should hijack Palace’s move for Van Persie…

They need a striker

With Arouna Kone leaving Goodison Park following the expiration of his contract and with Enner Valencia returning to West Ham United following a season-long loan deal, Everton need to sign at least one striker this summer.

It could be two if Romelu Lukaku departs as well with the 24-year-old continuing to be linked with a return to Chelsea, and Van Persie certainly could be the answer whether the Belgian leaves or not, as he perhaps wouldn’t expect to start every game seeing as he turns 34 in August.

However, the Toffees’ participation in the Europa League should mean that there are plenty of opportunities either way, and he could be bought for a cut-price fee considering he has just one year left on his Fenerbahce contract.

Guaranteed goals

Wherever he goes, Van Persie seems to guarantee goals and it would make him something of a no-risk purchase for Ronald Koeman this summer.

The 33-year-old scored 18 goals and provided a further five assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce last season, while he netted 22 in his first season in Turkey following his move from Manchester United.

If Everton are looking for to bring extra goals to the team for next season, they must look to hijack Crystal Palace’s interest in the Dutch attacker.

European experience

Aside from the 2014/15 season with Manchester United, Van Persie has played in European competition every year of his playing career and he has plenty of Champions League and Europa League experience as a result.

That knowledge could be vital as Everton look to make a big impression in the Europa League next season, while they know they could also rely on the 33-year-old to deliver in the Premier League as well with the increased number of fixtures meaning there will be more rotation in the team.
