According to reports in Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Everton are one of four Premier League clubs interested in signing Barcelona forward Munir El Haddadi this summer.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman is keen to strengthen his squad this summer and with Arouna Kone leaving Goodison Park following the expiry of his contract, Enner Valencia returning to West Ham United at the end of his season-long loan deal from West Ham United and Romelu Lukaku’s future firmly in doubt, the Dutchman needs attackers.

The Merseyside outfit – along with Southampton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace – are said to have made an enquiry for the 21-year-old who was expected to have a big future at the La Liga giants just a couple of years ago, but now looks set to leave the Camp Nou as he isn’t part of new Barca manager Ernesto Valverde’s plans.

Here are three reasons Everton should steer clear of signing El Haddadi…

Experience

If Everton do need to look for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku this summer then they should probably be looking for a player that has a little more experience than 21-year-old El Haddadi.

This season spent on loan at Valencia was the first campaign of the forward’s career when he has played regular football, and with the Toffees already having youngsters like Tom Davies, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin around the first team in attacking positions, they probably don’t need another one.

Performance

Valencia would have been full of hope that El Haddadi could have made an impression during his loan spell with the potential he has shown at Barcelona, but it wasn’t really the case.

Even though it can be difficult to make an impact when you’ve joined a club on a temporary basis, the 21-year-old’s return of six goals and three assists in 34 La Liga appearances is far from prolific, and it is one of the reasons why the Spanish side have so far failed to take up their option to sign the forward on a permanent deal.

Adapting to English football

If Lukaku does go this summer having scored 25 Premier League goals this season, it is clear that Everton and Ronald Koeman will need a replacement that can hit the ground running.

There would certainly be a risk if they relied on El Haddadi to do that seeing as he has only played his football in Spain, and English football isn’t the easiest to adapt to – you only have to look at the impact of Southampton’s club-record buy Sofiane Boufal this term to see that.
