According to reports in the Nottingham Post, out-of-favour Leeds United midfielder Liam Bridcutt is a target for Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Nottingham Post says that Reds manager Mark Warburton is keen to bolster his midfield options and wants to bring the 28-year-old, who has less than a year remaining on his contract with the Yorkshire outfit, to the City Ground.

The report adds that it is not the first time that Forest have been interested in the Scotland international, having tried to sign him prior to his transfer to Elland Road when he was at Sunderland.

Despite being captain under the leadership of former United boss Garry Monk last term as the club narrowly missed out on securing a play-off position, Bridcutt has endured a tough start to the new campaign under Thomas Christiansen and he may now be considering his options.

Here are three reasons Leeds should cash in on Forest target Bridcutt…

While Bridcutt was a key player for Leeds last season, it has been a different story following the appointment of Thomas Christiansen as Garry Monk’s successor during the summer.

The 28-year-old failed to make the match-day squad for the Whites’ opening three matches of the new season, although he did make the 18 for the goalless draw against Fulham on Tuesday night.

Having brought the likes of Mateusz Klich, Madger Gomes and Vurnon Anita to the club this summer, and with Kalvin Phillips, Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira already in their ranks, the Yorkshire outfit have plenty of options in the middle of the park and Bridcutt would probably not be missed.

Transfer fee

Considering he hasn’t really been involved for Leeds so far this season and is out of contract next summer, the Yorkshire outfit may be tempted to cash in on the 28-year-old now rather than risking losing him for nothing in 2018.

Christiansen may well be tempted to try and get a transfer fee from Nottingham Forest for the Scotland international now considering the midfield options he has, and the money could even be reinvested back into the squad before the window slams shut at the end of the month.

The future

The ultimate aim for Leeds this season will be build on their seventh-place finish last term and secure a return to the Premier League, and their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign will give them confidence that they can do exactly that.

Christiansen will also have to start considering the players that he wants if the Yorkshire outfit are promoted at the end of the season, and if he doesn’t feel that Bridcutt can make the step up to the top flight then he should sell him now.
