According to BBC Football, Manchester United are closing in on a £75m deal to sign Everton striker and Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku.

With Diego Costa set to leave the Premier League champions this summer, Blues manager Antonio Conte had expected to replace the Spaniard with the Belgium international just three years after he left Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal, according to BBC Football.

However, their former boss Jose Mourinho now looks set to win the race for the 24-year-old, who scored 25 top flight goals as the Toffees qualified for the Europa League last season.

While the news may come as a blow to Conte, the Italian will still be confident that missing out on one of his top summer transfer targets won’t prove to be a hindrance for his team as they look to retain their Premier League trophy next term.

Here are three reasons missing out on Lukaku will not affect Chelsea’s title hopes…

They will sign another striker

While Chelsea look set to miss out on Lukaku, the fact that Costa still looks set to leave Stamford Bridge will still mean that they are in the market for a big-money deal for a striker this summer.

The likes of Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could now all become primary targets for the Blues, and all of them have the quality and potential to have a huge impact in the Premier League next season.

If they have been beaten to the signature of Lukaku by United, Roman Abramovich will know that he needs to bring in a top-class striker to keep Antonio Conte happy.

While having a prolific striker can be important, Chelsea showed last season that they have goalscorers all over the team and that will help them in their quest to regain their Premier League title.

Diego Costa may have scored 22 goals in all competitions during the 2016/17 campaign, but Eden Hazard and Pedro got 30 between them, while the likes of Gary Cahill and Marcos Alonso netted eight and six respectively.

Romelu Lukaku may be a born goalscorer, but Chelsea still have the firepower to challenge for the prestigious trophy without him.

They’ve got Batshuayi

While United look set to snap up Lukaku, Chelsea may already have a striker with as much potential in the form of his Belgium teammate, Batshuayi.

The 23-year-old struggled to break into the first team in his first year at Stamford Bridge because of the form of Diego Costa and with the club not participating in European competition, but he still scored five Premier League goals in just 235 minutes on the pitch throughout the campaign, and nine in all competitions.

The striker certainly seems to have that knack of finding himself in the right place at the right time, and he has shown he can finish too.
