Newcastle United will look to make it successive Premier League wins when they face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

The Magpies' return to the top flight started with consecutive losses against Tottenham Hotspur and fellow newly-promoted outfit Huddersfield Town – both matches in which they failed to score – but they recovered well to record a relatively comprehensive 3-0 victory against West Ham United at St. James’ Park last time out.

Joselu, Ciaran Clark and Aleksandar Mitrovic were on the score-sheet against the Irons, but the latter will miss out on the trip to south Wales after the Serbian was retrospectively handed a three-match ban for an elbow on Manuel Lanzini.

While manager Rafa Benitez would have been disappointed not to make any signings on transfer deadline day, he at least now knows the squad he has to work with until the New Year.

The Spaniard will also be well aware of the threat the Swans could pose on Sunday and it will be a hugely difficult task to make it two wins from two.

Here are three reasons Newcastle will fail to beat Swansea on Sunday…

The performance at Huddersfield

While Newcastle were much improved against a poor West Ham side last time out, their performance the previous weekend against Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium is still a cause for concern.

Rather than make a big impact in what was an early-season winnable away match, the Magpies lacked quality and often looked short of ideas in what was a Championship fixture last season.

Benitez’s men need to show a lot more away from home against experienced Premier League sides like Swansea if they are to take enough points on their travels over the remainder of the campaign.

Ok, so they did lose 4-0 at home to Manchester United last month but the Red Devils have started the season in imperious form and three of the goals did come after the 80th minute.

Nevertheless the Swansea backline has looked stronger in their other two fixtures and they kept two impressive clean sheets against Southampton and Crystal Palace.

They have already shown a stark improvement from some of their poor defensive displays that cost them on the road last season and with Newcastle having failed to scored in two of their three matches this term, the south Wales outfit will be confident of keeping another shut-out against the Magpies.

Deadline day signings will boost Swansea

While Newcastle failed to bring in a single player on deadline day, Swansea boosted their squad by replacing the outgoing Fernando Llorente with former striker Wilfried Bony and pulling off one of the signings of the summer transfer window on paper in Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches.

Both additions should be very well received by the home support and they will also lift the Swans players who may have been worried by the departures of Llorente and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
