Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes continued his fine start to the campaign with a man-of-the-match performance in his club's 5-1 win against Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old wide man scored two and assisted two in the thrashing of the La Liga outfit, with his showing sure to have attracted admiring glances from a number of clubs across Europe.

Considering he has been so impressive for the Russian club since joining them from FC Twente in 2014, it would certainly be no surprise to see the prolific attacker to move on either in the New Year or next summer.

Meanwhile, Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino has endured a tough start to his career at St Mary’s with the club scoring just seven goals and picking up two wins from their nine matches in all competitions so far this season, and the Argentine is likely to look to strengthen his attacking options during the January transfer window.

Here are three reasons Southampton must make an ambitious move for Quincy Promes…

Goals

It is clear to see what Southampton's main issue is and has been since the start of last season, and despite the fact that Manolo Gabbiadini scored twice against Newcastle United on Sunday, Pellegrino must look to sign a new attacker in the New Year.

If he wants a versatile forward who can score goals on a regular basis then he should look no further than Promes, whose brace against Seville on Tuesday night means that he has now scored 54 goals in 104 appearances in all competitions for Spartak Moscow.

With two goals in seven caps for the Netherlands this year too, the 24-year-old has the potential to solve Saints' goalscoring woes.

Creativity

Southampton attacking midfielder Dusan Tadic

Pellegrino would have hoped that the likes of Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadic could step up and create more chances for Southampton this season, but it just hasn’t happened.

The former has failed to find the net in his last 20 Premier League appearances, providing just four assists, while the latter has one goal and one assist in 19 outings during the same period.

With six assists in 15 appearances this term and 10 in 29 during the 2016/17 campaign for Spartak, Promes certainly has that ability to unlock defences that Saints are missing badly right now.

Sadio Mane replacement

It is probably no coincidence that the goals have dried up for Southampton following the departure of Mane to Liverpool in 2016, and they have never really replaced his goals or the huge impact he had for the south coast outfit.

The Senegal international was quick, unpredictable and loved to take on and strike fear into the defenders he came up against, and in many ways Quincy Promes is similar and could finally be Saints' new Mane.

The bored St Mary's faithful would certainly back an ambitious move for the 24-year-old with such a lack of entertainment on offer from their team right now, seeing as they have failed to find the net in nine of their last 11 home matches in all competitions.
