Southampton travel to title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday as they look to cement their spot in the top half of the table.

It will be the third successive Premier League match on the road for Claude Puel’s side, who have hit form in recent weeks having recorded away wins at Sunderland and Watford – scoring four goals in both games.

In between, they were unfortunate to be on the losing side in the EFL Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley last month, but with no other distractions they will be looking to make a strong end to the campaign.

It won’t be an easy task to take all three points against Spurs though, who will still harbour hopes of overtaking London rivals Chelsea at the summit, despite the fact that they were 10 points adrift with just 11 games remaining before this weekend.

This fixture always takes on a bit of extra spice as Mauricio Pochettino used to manage the south coast outfit, while Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama are also former Saints alumni.

Here are THREE reasons Southampton will win at White Hart Lane on Sunday…

The absence of Harry Kane

It would have been a huge boost for Saints boss Claude Puel when he saw Kane limp off with an ankle problem in Spurs’ win against Millwall last weekend, and the England international will definitely miss this weekend’s clash at White Hart Lane.

Having scored 19 Premier League goals this season – the joint-best in the division with Romelu Lukaku – his absence leaves a big hole in the Tottenham’s frontline, and takes away their biggest goal threat.

Their in-form forward line

While Tottenham have lost their main man, Southampton’s forward line is firing on all cylinders right now.

We all know how well Manolo Gabbiadini is doing – the Italian has scored four goals in his first three Premier League games for the club, as well as two in the EFL Cup final – but his form is being replicated by those around him too.

Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond also both scored in the 4-3 win against Watford last time out, and the latter will especially come into this clash in good confidence having received his first senior call-up to the England squad on Thursday.

Last team to win there

Incredibly, it was Southampton who were the last team to win at White Hart Lane – in May 2016 – when Steven Davis scored a brace as the south coast outfit produced a strong finish to the season.

Since then, Tottenham have gone on a run of 18 matches at their famous stadium without tasting defeat, but Claude Puel’s side will know that the loss last year could still be in the back of the minds of the Spurs players and staff.
