Tottenham Hotspur fans have been long suffering victims in the FA Cup. They haven't seen their team lift the trophy for 26 years, way back in 1991, and haven't even reached a final in that time either.

In fact, they have only gone past the Fourth Round four times in the last ten years, which isn't a good enough record for a side that are regularly qualifying for European competition in the English Premier League.

That needs to change and supporters are dreaming that this is the year they can do it, given their incredible recent form in the top-flight.

After defeating Aston Villa in the last round, Spurs now host League Two side Wycombe on Saturday - the perfect opportunity for a route to the Fifth Round which could start to piece together a proper FA Cup run.

It is, of course, a difficult task to lift the trophy, but this season's Spurs stars, more than most in recent years, have attributes that make the team one of the favourites.

Here are THREE reasons why this is the year Tottenham will find glory at Wembley...

Their style of play suits cup football

No other team in England - perhaps maybe Liverpool - are more suited to the rollercoaster nature of the FA Cup this season than Spurs.

Their exciting and attacking brand of football has not just wowed their own supporters, but neutrals too, with many fans of other clubs casting an envious eye towards White Hart Lane.

Attacking wing-backs, strength in the midfield, classy defenders and a lethal poacher all combine to create the kind of direct and combative football you need to progress in cup ties.

That'll only be increasingly true as they progress deeper into the competition and Mauricio Pochettino starts to field stronger sides than he did against Villa and likely Wycombe.

When the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Victor Wanyama start to feature, they could be unstoppable.

Greater squad depth than ever before

Spurs have tremendous squad depth this season even when their most important players like Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli don't feature.

The likes of Son Heung-min and the soon-to-return Erik Lamela all offer a threat that is greater than most other teams in England. Add in other less regular starters like Ben Davies and Moussa Sissoko and it means that Pochettino has the required strength to fight on three fronts deep into the season.

If the Spurs boss can keep his regular starters performing to a high standard, as he has been, then it's going to be very tough for another side to capitalise on tiredness or a heavy schedule in the closing stages of the campaign.

Tottenham may even add a new face or two in the last few days of the transfer window, which could be the difference between winning silverware and not.

Big game performers

More than any other season, this one is the one that you can say Spurs' big names are starting to turn up in the big games.

They have at least been competitive in every match against teams in the top six this season and have picked up notable scalps against Chelsea and Manchester City, while also drawing away to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Performances like Dele Alli's against Chelsea show that Spurs finally have the confidence to believe they can be title contenders and if they can do that, then they'll know they can put a glorious cup run together before getting the job done at Wembley.

Given that Chelsea are proving to be so consistent in the Premier League, the FA Cup could be their best chance of silverware this season. It would be their first under Pochettino and the Spurs boss should throw everything at the competition now he has a team that can consider themselves amongst the favourites to lift the trophy.
