Manchester United will look to continue their perfect start to the Premier League season when they face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in one of the stand-out fixtures of the weekend on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils are the only side that still hold a 100% record after the first three fixtures of the campaign, while they have also scored 10 goals during that period and are yet to concede.

Those convincing wins came against West Ham United, Swansea City and Leicester City, with summer signing Romelu Lukaku on target three times so far as Jose Mourinho’s men look to challenge for the league title.

However, it may not be plain sailing for them against a Stoke side that have bounced back from an opening day 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park by beating Arsenal by the same scoreline at the Britannia Stadium, before drawing 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns last time out.

Here are three reasons Stoke will bring United’s winning run to an end…

Stoke incredibly lost 10 of their first 11 Premier League fixtures against Manchester United after they were promoted in 2008, but they have been much improved against the Red Devils in recent times.

The Potters have been beaten by United just once in the last five top flight matches between the two clubs – a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford in February 2016 – with three of those clashes ending in draws and Mark Hughes’ men registering a 2-0 win in December 2015.

Stoke will certainly take a lot of confidence from that record against Jose Mourinho’s in-form side, and it may also creep into the minds of the visitors.

Man United's recent record at the Britannia

While Man United’s record against Stoke in the past couple of years has been disappointing, it is their results at the Britannia Stadium during the same period that will be even more concerning for Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils have taken just two points from their last four visits to the Britannia, with Wayne Rooney only snatching a point for them back in January of this year with a late free-kick.

The cliché is that Stoke is never an easy place to go, and United will know that they could be in for a real battle on Saturday considering it is quickly becoming one of their bogey grounds.

There is no doubt that they will face a fight to keep hold of their 100% start to the season too, aided by the boisterous home support.

Their win against Arsenal

The Britannia Stadium quickly became known as one of the toughest grounds to visit for the top teams in the Premier League a few years ago, but Stoke have started to lose that identity and record in more recent seasons.

Last term for example, they were beaten there by Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, and it wasn’t really good enough.

Mark Hughes would have wanted that to change during the current campaign and he certainly got off to a good start as the Potters beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Britannia last month, with new boy Jese Rodriguez netting the winning goal.

It could prove to be a turning point in Stoke’s ability to beat the top sides at home, and they will want to build on that impressive result when they host Man United on Saturday.
