Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen completed a season-long loan move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce on Friday.

The Netherlands international, who Transfermarkt value at £11.7million, only joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar last summer, but he is already fighting to save his career in north London with the loan move following a disappointing debut campaign at White Hart Lane.

The Mirror previously reported that the 23-year-old had no future at the club after the centre-forward refused to join West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City or Brighton & Hove Albion, who were all interested in the taking the Dutchman on deadline day following the arrival of Fernando Llorente from Swansea City.

The Mirror added that Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy were keen to cut their losses on the striker having been too patient with the likes of Roberto Soldado previously, but the decision could easily come back to bite them.

Here are three reasons Tottenham will regret loaning Janssen out to Fenerbahce…

Lack of real opportunities

While Janssen clearly struggled at times last season he – perhaps understandably – wasn’t given enough opportunities on the pitch in his debut Premier League campaign because of how important and influential Harry Kane is.

Although he appeared for 829 minutes throughout the year, many of those outings were short cameos from the substitutes’ bench where it is difficult to make a big impression.

The 23-year-old showed what he is capable of by scoring four goals and providing a further two assists in five FA Cup and EFL Cup appearances, and he could easily go on to score more than 20 goals for Fenerbachce considering he netted 27 times in the Eredivisie during 2015/16.

Injuries

While Tottenham have Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente as their two main centre-forwards right now, the situation could quickly change if either player picks up an injury – as the former did on two separate occasions last season.

If the worst does happen, Spurs will once again be short of physical cover on the substitutes' bench, meaning the likes of Son Heung-Min may be selected to play as a striker.

Although you certainly wouldn’t blame Pochettino for favouring Kane and Llorente over Janssen, it may be a mistake not to have kept the Dutchman in and around the squad as extra cover in the event of any big issues.

Competitions

Having finished second in the English top flight last season, the ultimate goal for Tottenham this season has to be winning their first Premier League title.

Considering they are also competing in the group stages of the Champions League as well as looking to advance in both the EFL and FA Cups, Mauricio Pochettino surely needs a big squad available to him if his side are to enjoy success.

In those terms, it is certainly a risk to loan Janssen out when he has just Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente as his other centre-forward options.
