According to reports in The Sun, Everton are looking already looking at potential replacements for under-fire manager Ronald Koeman with former Watford boss Walter Mazzarri one that they have sounded out about the position.

The pressure is building on the Dutchman after the Merseyside outfit lost four of their opening seven Premier League fixtures of the season, as well as taking just one point from six available in the Europa League, despite a huge summer of spending.

Mazzarri has been without a job since he was sacked by the Hornets towards the end of the previous campaign, and the fact that they finished in 17th following a poor end to the season won't exactly excite Everton supporters.

However, the Italian has enjoyed success prior to his reign at Vicarage Road and while he may not be able to speak great English right now, neither could Mauricio Pochettino when he took over at Southampton, and look at him now.

Here are three reasons Mazzarri would be a great replacement for Koeman…

His success with Napoli

While Mazzarri enjoyed positive spells with both Sampdoria and Inter Milan prior to coming to England to take the Watford job, he enjoyed the majority of his success with Napoli between 2009 and 2013.

The Italian guided the Serie A outfit to a sixth-place finish in his first season in charge, but it was in the next campaign that his management really started to take effect.

Mazzarri led Napoli to a third-place finish and automatic qualification for the Champions League with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik excelling, while after winning the 2012 Coppa Italia he secured a second-place finish in Serie A in 2013 – the Italian side's most successful league campaign in more than 20 years.

He plays attacking football

Mazzarri became known for his counter-attacking football during his time in charge at Napoli, as he often used a 3-4-3 formation in order to bring the best out of Cavani, Lavezzi and Hamsik.

The Italian loved for his teams to break at pace, and that is certainly something that Everton fans should want to see with the inclusion of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen in the same starting XI leaving the Merseyside outfit often looking a little pedestrian.

Understandably, he had to be a little more cautious during his time with Watford but he would be taking over a higher quality of player if he did take the reins at Goodison Park.

He has managed big-name players

As we have already mentioned previously, Mazzarri has experience of managing players like Cavani, Lavezzi and Hamsik at Napoli, and Javier Zanetti and Mauro Icardi at Inter Milan, so he knows how to deal with big egos.

That could be an important factor if he did replace Koeman at Goodison Park with the money that Everton have spent on players in recent times and will do again in the future, and he may even be able to convince the 30-year-old Cavani to come to Merseyside if he does leave Paris Saint-Germain in the future with the club still looking for a Romelu Lukaku replacement.

Ok, that is unlikely but having worked with him before and enjoyed great success, I guess you can never say never.
