According to reports in The Mirror, West Ham United have reportedly slapped a £30m price tag on the head of key man Manuel Lanzini in order to ward off interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool this summer.

The attacking midfielder is attracting admiring glances from the Irons’ Premier League rivals following a string of impressive performances this term, having joined the club on a permanent basis last March.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believes he could be a potential long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who scored twice in his side’s 4-0 win against the Hammers on Sunday, with the Brazilian understood to be a transfer target for Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Spurs and the Gunners are also both keen on the 24-year-old as they look to strengthen their squads during the summer, with the former guaranteed a spot in the group stages of the Champions League.

Here are three reasons West Ham must increase the £30m asking price for Lanzini…

He is a key player

As we mentioned previously, Lanzini has been one of the impressive performers in a disappointing season for the Irons, and he has become a fans’ favourite after stepping up to the plate following the controversial departure of Dimitri Payet to Marseille during the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old helps the Hammers tick when they are on their game while he has also scored eight Premier League goals and provided a further two assists in 34 top fight appearances this term.

As well as creating 48 chances for his teammates, the Argentine has also shown his ability on the ball by completing 82 take-ons.

£30m is affordable in this day and age

While £30m may have been a huge sum of money to pay as a transfer fee for a player just a few years ago, it certainly isn’t any more.

The ever-increasing television money mean that Premier League clubs now have huge transfer budgets – shown by Crystal Palace paying more than £30m for Christian Benteke last summer – and Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham would all be willing to pay that amount in order to prise the impressive Lanzini away from the London Stadium.

Wages and European football

West Ham could also face some problems in convincing Lanzini that he should stay with the Irons if any of the aforementioned trio of clubs come calling.

Firstly, all three – with the possible exception of Tottenham – would likely be able to offer him wages in excess of £100,000-per-week, which is a number the east London outfit could struggle to stretch too as it could create tension between members of their squad.

In addition, all three clubs have European football to look forward to next season which could match the ambitions of the 24-year-old.
