According to reports in the Daily Express, West Ham United want Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann to potentially replace the under-fire Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium.

The Croatian is under huge pressure following the 3-0 defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday night and the generally disappointing start to the campaign, which has left the club in 16th position in the table with two wins from their opening nine Premier League fixtures this term.

The Daily Express says that the board have intensified their search for Bilic's successor and they have identified Nagelsmann, who is rated as one of the top young coaches in European football, as their preferred target although no formal approach has yet been made.

While the 30-year-old would look to be a good choice on paper, he isn't the right man for the Irons right now.

Here are three reasons West Ham should steer clear of targeting Nagelsmann…

Lack of experience

While he has done hugely well with Hoffenheim after leading them to survival and then a fourth-place finish and qualification for the Champions League last season, the fact is that Nagelsmann has less than two years of managerial experience under his belt.

With Slaven Bilic struggling and looking more and more likely to get the boot in the coming days or weeks, you get the feeling that West Ham need a safe option – at least for the rest of this season – rather than taking a risk on a 30-year-old seeing as they could easily find themselves in a relegation battle.

Pressure

Having taken the Hoffenheim job in February 2016 at the age of 28, there would have been little expectation and pressure on his shoulders despite the fact that the Bundesliga outfit were seven points from safety.

After winning seven of the last 14 matches that season they survived, and the 30-year-old would have exceeded all aims the following campaign when he secured a top-four finish.

Nagelsmann would certainly have a lot more pressure if he took the West Ham job, with the supporters and board likely wanting to see quick results and improvement on the pitch in order to turn their season around.

The Premier League

While Nagelsmann has enjoyed great success in the Bundesliga over the course of the last 20 months or so, managing in the Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish for a number of reasons – just ask Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp.

Even though the enigmatic German enjoyed great success with Borussia Dortmund he is still struggling to make his Liverpool team compete at a consistently good level after two years in charge – see Sunday's 4-1 defeat against Tottenham – and Nagelsmann could easily find himself in a similar situation in the English top flight if he took the West Ham job.

Given West Ham's situation right now, in some ways they can’t afford to bring in someone that could take time to get used to the style of play in the Premier League.
