According to reports in The Mirror, West Ham United are targeting a move for Anderlecht striker Lukasz Teodorczyk this summer.

Irons boss Slaven Bilic is keen to bring in a new centre-forward at the end of the season with Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho once again suffering injury problems throughout the campaign – sometimes leaving the team without a recognised striker.

It has been a frustrating situation for Bilic, whose side have struggled to adapt to life at the London Stadium.

One player that is understood to have caught his eye is the 25-year-old Poland international, who has impressed for the Belgian outfit this term after initially joining them on a season-long loan deal from Dynamo Kyiv last summer.

The move was made permanent in March but despite that, the Irons are said to be readying a bid for the prolific marksman as they look to solve their striker issue. The striker is rated at £10.63m by transfermarkt.com.

Here are three reasons Lukasz Teodorczyk would be an upgrade on Carroll…

His goalscoring record

While Carroll has proven over the years that he can score goals at this level, injuries mean that he doesn’t spend enough time on the pitch to make a significant and consistent impact.

Teodorczyk has enjoyed an amazing season with Anderlecht – scoring 28 goals in 47 matches in all competitions for the Belgian outfit – and he clearly has a keen eye for goal.

Slaven Bilic will know the impact that physical strikers such as Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke have had after they moved to the Premier League from Belgium, and he will believe that the 25-year-old can follow suit.

His attributes

While the 6’2” striker is strong and decent in the air, he also has a bit of pace and technical ability too, which means that he is more of an all-round striker than Carroll is.

It should mean that the presence of Teodorczyk would allow the Irons to play in a variety of different ways, rather than the sometimes one-dimensional game they play when Carroll starts up top.

With 28 goals to his name this season, he has shown he has the ability to finish chances he is provided with too.

His injury record

This will be a key factor when Bilic is looking to bring a new striker to the club this summer, as he won’t want to suffer the same problems he has with Carroll and Diafra Sakho.

Obviously injuries can happen at any moment on the pitch or even on the training ground, but the fact that Teodorczyk has missed just 10 days of the current season with a minor muscular problem will please the Croatian boss.

His previous absence before that came in 2015 when he fractured his fibula.
