The crown jewel of the Scottish football calendar, the Celtic vs Rangers derby is one of the most iconic in world football, always attracting attention from fans around the world. If you thought the previous fixtures this season between the two sides meant a lot, then you haven’t seen anything yet.
This Sunday’s match at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final has more at stake than usual. The Hoops are going for a famous treble of trophies and also an unbeaten domestic season. The Gers are aiming to stop their great rivals from achieving that feat and also to take a first step towards success in the Pedro Caixinha era at Ibrox.
Celtic have won three of the four fixtures so far this season, starting with a 5-1 thumping at Celtic Park. Since then the Gers have gradually fought their way back, first to a 1-0 defeat, then actually scoring against them in a 2-1 defeat at Ibrox before eventually holding them to a draw last month.
