As reported by The BBC, Hearts winger Jamie Walker has emerged as a key target for Rangers this summer as Pedro Caixinha continues his squad revolution at Ibrox.

The Light Blues have made five signings so far as they continue to prepare for UEFA Europa League qualifiers later this summer.

However, there's plenty of talent left to add and it appears as if Pedro Caixinha is turning to a homegrown player to complement the suite of Portuguese players he's brought to the club.

Walker made his professional debut in 2011 on loan at Raith Rovers and since that spell in Fife has made 163 appearances for the Tynecastle club.

With just a year left on his contract though, his time at the club could be coming to an end.

We reckon he'd be a great fit at Ibrox and here are THREE reasons why...

More goals than most at Ibrox

Last season Jamie Walker was in blistering form at Hearts, scoring a fantastic 15 goals in all competitions for the club. If he'd done that at Rangers he would have ended up the Gers' joint top goalscorer alongside Martyn Waghorn. That's a tremendous goal threat to add to your team, especially from a player who isn't an out and out striker. From the left wing he's been a devastating force, often cutting inside and shooting at goal or attempting to set up one of his teammates.

It's not the first time he's reached double figures in terms of goals for Hearts, also scoring 11 goals in 2014/15. Overall he's scored 38 goals in 163 appearances for the Tynecastle club which isn't a half bad return from the position, especially since many of those appearances came at such a young age.

Barrie McKay badly needs competition

Another major positive of signing Jamie Walker would be adding serious competition for the likes of Barrie McKay. The Rangers winger has long been the next great hope of the Ibrox support but Walker is arguably an even better talent. There's only a year separating the two players after all.

McKay is in a similar position to the one Walker is in at Tynecastle, with just 12 months left on his deal at Rangers. Bringing in Walker would protect the club from losing a key creative talent on the left wing.

Beyond that, even if McKay stays, he needs that competition to bring his game on. No-one doubts that the 22-year-old has ability but his application and motivation has been called into question, especially this season.

Having Walker there would mean he'd have to bust a guy every week to either break into the side or maintain his position and having two big options in the position could only be a benefit for Rangers.

He's still young and learning

As noted Jamie Walker still has his whole career ahead of him at the age of 23. Despite having been around for years and years, he's still young and in many ways learning his craft. Given the kind of form he has achieved already, the prospect of what could follow should be massively exciting for Rangers fans if he does end up making the switch to Ibrox.

Pedro Caixinha has an experienced coaching staff at Auchenhowie and that could bring on his game even further. With the greatest respect to Hearts, Rangers are also a bigger club who are expected to win every single game and even adding that edge to Walker's game could help him become an even better player.

That pressure is often the making of players who arrive at Rangers or Celtic, maturing into reliable players who can do the business every week rather than show their talent in flashes for provincial clubs.
