Three reasons why this weekend’s derby is as important as ever for Rangers
There’s an argument to say that the derby between Rangers and Celtic doesn’t matter that much for the green half of the city anymore. That they are too far ahead. That they have other goals. While that may be a bit of a stretch, it may partly be true this weekend when the Gers host the Hoops at Ibrox.
Brendan Rodgers’ men don’t have much to play for and they have nothing to prove. A defeat would be a blow in terms of their unbeaten season, but nothing tangible is at stake.
The same cannot be said for for Rangers, who must be desperate to finally get one over on their city rivals. They’ve lost four of the five encounters between the two sides this season with the sixth and final one on Saturday their last chance to salvage something from the derby.
Outside of the context of the derby itself, it’s still a massive match.
