Leeds United will look to extend their unbeaten start to the Championship season to six matches when they host a lowly Burton Albion side at Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites are looking to improve on the seventh-place finish they achieved last season and they have certainly made a positive start to the campaign under new boss Thomas Christiansen, despite bringing in a whole host of new players during the summer and seeing the prolific Chris Wood depart for Burnley.

An opening day win at Bolton Wanderers was followed by successive goalless draws at home to Preston North End and Fulham, before the Yorkshire outfit recorded impressive 2-0 victories on the road against Sunderland and Nottingham Forest prior to the international break.

With new signings arriving since then and other players returning from injury, there are certainly some decisions to be made ahead of the clash against Burton, who lie outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Here are four selection dilemmas Christiansen has ahead of the visit from the Brewers…

Liam Cooper or Matthew Pennington

There was a lot of excitement when Leeds signed Pennington on a season-long loan deal from Everton during the summer following the end of a similar spell for Kyle Bartley.

However, during the opening day clash against Bolton Wanderers the 22-year-old suffered an ankle injury and has been on the sidelines ever since.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that he returned to training during the international break and Christiansen must decide whether to bring him straight back into the side.

With Pontus Jansson almost a guaranteed starter it would probably be captain Liam Cooper’s place that comes under threat, but having helped the team keep three clean sheets in his four appearances – as well as scoring against Nottingham Forest – it seems as though Pennington will have to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench.

Vurnon Anita or Gaetano Berardi

Like Pennington, Berardi was also forced off against Bolton after dislocating his shoulder and has been sidelined with the problem ever since.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post believe Italian also made his return to training during the international break and he could be in contention to reclaim the left-back spot ahead of the visit of the Brewers.

It certainly won't be a simple decision for Christiansen though considering Vurnon Anita has been a reliable and consistent performer in the unfamiliar role over the course of the previous three Championship fixtures, in which Leeds haven't conceded a single goal.

Mateusz Klich or Ronaldo Vieira to replace Eunan O’Kane

O’Kane has started all five of Leeds’ Championship fixtures this season and has formed an impressive partnership in the middle of the park with Kalvin Phillips, often leaving new boy Mateusz Klich and Ronaldo Vieira on the substitutes’ bench.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the Republic of Ireland international is a doubt for the visit of Burton after being sent home from their camp because of a groin injury.

If the 27-year-old doesn’t return in time then Christiansen will need to decide which midfielder is going to replace him in the starting line-up, with Klich and Vieira playing just 40 minutes of Championship football between them so far this term.

Kemar Roofe, Pierre-Michel Lasogga or Pawel Cibicki

With Chris Wood leaving for Burnley and Caleb Ekuban picking up a knee injury on his league debut against Sunderland, Kemar Roofe was handed the striker’s role for the trip to Nottingham Forest last time out.

The former Oxford United man impressed and followed up his hat-trick against Newport County in the EFL Cup with a fine headed goal in the 2-0 win at the City Ground.

However, having brought in both Pierre-Michel Lasogga from Hamburg and Pawel Cibicki from Malmo since that game, Christiansen must now decide whether to keep the faith with Roofe for the visit of Burton, or bring one of his new players straight into the fold.
