Eriksson: Zaha faces tough decision

Sven Goran Eriksson Former England BossSven-Göran Eriksson has admitted that Wilfried Zaha faces a difficult choice in deciding whether he should represent England or the Ivory Coast at international level, according to talkSPORT.

The Crystal Palace starlet was called up to the England squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Sweden, and it is thought the 20-year-old could be in line for his international debut for the Three Lions but FIFA regulations means he could still play for the country he was born in.

Zaha has made 2 appearances at U19 level and 5 appearances for England U21s, with Hodgson taking this as an indicator that he is willing to play for the senior side.

However, even if the Eagles ace is selected tonight, he can still switch allegiances, because this is still possible before a player has received a cap in a competitive fixture.

The Former England boss who also had a stint with the Ivory Coast went on to talk about which country would provide the star game time on the international stage.

“England is a big nation but don’t forget that Ivory Coast is a very big team at the moment,” he told talkSPORT’s Drive Time show.

“Either of them could be in the final in Brazil at the next World Cup. He has to make a decision with his brain and his heart.

“It might come down to the chances he gets to play. That’s how players think about this sort of decision. He needs to work out if he’s feeling more English or Ivorian.”
