It was nice to see Uncle Woy become the first current England manager appear on Match of the Day on Saturday.
And as is often the case with Hodgson, the moment did not pass without a moment of (unintentional) comedy.
Whether he’s rubbing his face, or banging his head, Woy is always good for a laugh or two – and on this occasion it came about when the BBC described him as the Premier League‘s all time top goal scorer.
Was anybody else aware of this?
Sat alongside Alan Shearer (who incidentally is the all time leading goal scorer), Hodgson was obviously left unaware of the caption blunder, and continued to give his ‘tactical insight’ on the weekend’s action, oblivious of the fact people were now going urgently checking Wikipedia to ensure they weren’t losing their minds.
Of course it was a mistake, and anybody who has seen a Hodgson team play will know the former Liverpool and Fulham boss could never have been a top striker in his prime – when his teams struggle to hit the target once inside 90 minutes!
