Lascelles had an impressive season for the Magpies, but he continues to struggle to get a chance at international level.

Prior to the tournament, Maguire had only earned five caps for his country, but he was trusted by Southgate to form part of a back three.

The 25-year-0ld has featured in all five of England’s matches, and he scored his first international goal on Saturday as the Three Lions earned a spot in the semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Sweden.

Throughout the campaign, Maguire has been a solid figure in defence, but he has also proved to be a big threat from set pieces.

Fans who thought that Lascelles should have been selected ahead of Maguire are now admitting via Twitter that they were wrong.
