West Ham United goalkeeper Joe Hart will have an opportunity to claim the England number one spot with a firm grip when the nation face Brazil on Tuesday night.

For many years, the shot-stopper's position on the international stage was not challenged.

Winning five trophies during a time at Manchester City in which he was the first name on the teamsheet helped him take the number one jersey for England.

However, after he was deemed not worthy of the position at the Etihad Stadium by manager Pep Guardiola last year, the sense of invincibility surrounding Hart has diminished.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Italian club Torino and is now on a temporary deal at West Ham.

Some of the goalkeeper's performances have been questionable, which has led to Stoke City's Jack Butland and Everton's Jordan Pickford knocking on the England door.

After the latter's impressive performance against Germany on Friday, Hart has everything to prove when he is put in between the sticks at Wembley on Tuesday night.

According to The Independent, England manager Gareth Southgate told reporters:

“Now there is an opportunity for Joe to have experience against top opposition as well. We are all aware that there’s really good competition for places in that area of the pitch.”
